  2. Hi I am a new grad with a A.D. Nursing & a B.A. in Psychology. I was recently hired into the North Shore LIJ system. I inquired about the differential for having a bachelors and was told that I would not receive a differential because my degree is not a Bachelors in Science. My argument was if I were going into a Psych unit how and why would I not be compensated for my degree in Psych. Sure the degree is not in let's say Biology, but Psychology is a science that directly applies to nursing. Am I wrong here??
  3. Thank you so much for everyone and their prayers!!! I PASSED. THANK YOU GOD.
  4. thank you everyone for your prayers. I know with your prayers & God I will be ok. I should know in about 3hrs
  5. Thank you, my prayers are with you as well. I am from NY
  6. I took the NCLEX yesterday Friday the 18th. I left the test with the emptiest feeling I have ever had in my life. I felt like the test wasn't overly hard, and that's the problem. I had like 5 SATA, 5/6 Math and all the rest were prioritizing and drugs. I know that it shouldn't matter how many SATA's I got but I am nervous that it meant that I was doing bad. The math i had was tricky, the mcg/kg/min style questions that had like 5 steps. The test shut off in 75?s. It's out of my hands now but I have been praying that the Lord will let me pass. I have a job already and will lose it if I fail. Please help me out with your prayers. Thank you
  7. Hi, Do you mind PMing me that list you have of the hospital salaries as I am currently considering relocating from NY to Atlanta and this would come in handy. Thank you.
  8. I can't believe how low the pay is, especially since the only thing that seems cheaper is buying a home & car insurance.
  9. I am a NYer who will be graduating nursing school this May. I am doing research into a possible move into GA. I have researched a couple states but have realized that the salaries listed here for Atlanta area hospitals are from like '06 and older. Does any one have any info into what the area hospitals are starting RN's in '08? Also is the job market difficult for a man looking to work in the O.R.?
  10. Thank you, I have done some more research on salary websites and NY tax is about 6.85% of the salary. Sites that actually calculate the $ for you give you an estimate of about $160 is taken out of your avg $30hr job as a result of NY state tax. You're right that does not offset the $8hr pay diff. So that leaves me searching elsewhere. I have to start to look deeper into the cost of daily expenses in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale. For instance the price of gas, car insurance, groceries, etc. Any info from Florida residents?
  11. Hi I am a nursing student from NY and will be finishing school in 3 months; God willing. I would like to relocate to the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area and have been reading through all the great info here on the boards. My question though is that I know Florida doesn't have a state tax but how much does that offset the low salaries I've seen there of $22hr for a new RN. Here in NY it is save to say you will take home between 66%-70% of your salary after the gov gets there hands off:) For example if you make $30 hr up here in NY you get approx $2400 a paycheck and will actually see roughly $1584 in your hands. What is the percentage/equivalent in Florida? Thank You
