Hi All,

I already know there's a thread for TCC; however, I decided to start a new one.

I plan to apply in the fall. My application has been submitted and my transcripts are on the way :yeah:

I am totally excited. Is there anyone else applying this year?

How is everyone funding their education? Due to my previous undergraduate degree, I have exhausted my financial aid. So, I will be on the payment plan :p God will work it out for me!

Hope to hear from future TCC RNs :nurse:

Be Blessed guys...

Also, when I apply during that 1st week of August, how good are my chances to get into cohort 1?? (Does applying at the very beginning of the early application period hold any difference as opposed to applying say in november or december 1st?)

Hope to hear back from you guys (: Thanks

HEy aida, I just applied in January 2010, they told me that if you apply early application " aug-dec" that you have a bigger chance of being in cohort 1-2....if you apply jan-may ....chances are cohort 3-4. But they said that it can vary depending on each individual case and depending on that year. The sooner you can apply, the more chance you would have I guess. As long as you are enrolled in your last pre-reqs, then you should rather just send in the application....you'll hear from them once they've received your bio150 grades, etc...

I keep hearing that TCC has a wait list. Can anyone comment on this? I'm almost finished with my associates in science actually and was hoping to apply by the may 15th deadline but apparently they require bio 141 and 142 beforehand? So it looks like I'll be waiting. It's just frustrating to know they have a wait list.

There isn't a "wait list" per se....but you can't apply till you've completed most of your pre-reqs..i think you have to have completed 2 of the 3 required sciences, (bio 141-142,, and bio 150)

Ok so I got my final grade today for bio141 and it was an 89% (B) .... I got an A in ENG111 to avg out with my previous C from ENG111 so I have a B for that as well... I am taking BIO142 during the summer and applying like I said September 1st.. It was disheartening finding out that I didn't make that 90% to get an A for BIO141... Do I still have a good chance of being accepted into the nursing program? I am striving for an A in this BIO142 class during the summer, but if I come out with a B, I will have only 9 points. I understand that you are allowed to have 9 points, but how realistic is it to get in with the minimum points?

I'm a pre-nursing student at TCC. I am just finishing up BIO 142, and let me tell you - it is a LOT of work. The workload is much heavier than BIO 141. To give you an idea of what I mean: I work full-time, and took 4 classes last semester and made the Dean's List. One of those classes was BIO 141 (I got a high B in that class).

This semester, BIO 142 was the only class I took and I have struggled all semester. They have two cadavers and lots of prosections and parts. For me, the cadaver parts of the practicals were pretty difficult. The class is much more fast-paced than 141 and there is a lot more complex material that is covered. I have (moderator edit of faculty name) and she is a fantastic instructor. (moderator edit of faculty name) is also a great teacher (had her for 141).

I took Micro last year and do not recommend taking it with A&P unless you have a lot of time to study and have a good chemistry background.

Just IMO. Good luck to everyone! :)

Oh - I'm applying to Riverside because I need a nights/weekends program.

Hey TCC peeps... I am currently taking Bio141 and due to a few setbacks this term, my last lecture and lab test scores have suffered, Im a bit behind and I fear that I might not get the grade I want. I have a 3.8 GPA right now and really dont want it to be knocked down, especially by A&P. I have the option of withdrawing from the class, really gathering and studying the material and taking it again next term, which might help me because I have a learning disability and basically have to work twice as hard and longer than everyone else..... OR I can take it, get a hypothetical C, and retake the class in order to replace my C with Winter terms grade. I know some nursing schools look at overall gpa, and some will average the two grades from the bio141 classes....

Has anyone else been in this situation? Does anyone know if TCC nursing program will just accept the second grade, or if they will average out the two?

ANY input would be greatly appriciated, I have a little over a week to decide what I will do.

Per the TCC nursing handbook, they assign points for your science classes and english comp class. They use these points to help determine eligibility and who gets picked first. 4 = a, 3 = b etc. If you take 141 two times then the grades average out. 1st time C = 2pts, 2nd time A = 4pts. You'd end up with a 3 for 141.

im in cohort 4 starting march11

Congratulations!! I put in my application on October 8th! (: I have all my pre-reqs done (SDV101, ENG111, ENG112, PHI220, PSY235, PSY201, BIO141, & BIO142) all i have to take now is BIO150 during the Spring 2011 semester. I also have to take MATH1 though because I didn't do well on the Nursing Math Diagnostic Test. Has anyone taken the class yet if needed? If so, how did the it class go? I know it only lasts for about a month.

Another question. I was told by a counselor at Portsmouth that I needed to complete ITE115 but then I spoke to a different counselor on the phone the other day and she said that I don't have to do that I just need to take the computer competency test..... ?? Does anyone know the "real deal" here? :/

Thanks, Aida

Congrats on applying. I'm taking two of my last three pre req's next semester, Bio 150 and SDV 101. Can't apply yet because i'm waiting on my stupid high school transcripts. As for the computer class, this is the first time i've heard about it. I even looked on the TCC website for info and didn't see anything about it. I definitely don't want to find out to late that i'm missing a pre req.

I haven't taken Math 1 yet. That's my last pre req. I got a 99, 99, 97 and 89 on the nursing diagnostic test, needless to say i'm not happy about that. Also because of my work schedule I can't take it next semester, so I have to take it in the summer. I can't wait for all these pre-reqs to be done, especially now that I can apply.

You can do either. Anyone who graduates from TCC--not just the nursing program--either has to complete ITE115 or take a computer test to fulfill the computer comptency requirement. AFAIK, you have until graduation to complete this--you don't need to have it done before you're admitted to the nursing program.

If you know how to use Microsoft Office and how send an e-mail, save yourself the money and take the test. It takes less than an hour.

I know this is an old tread but is there anyone out there applying before the May 15th deadline?

I would also like to know if any one is applying to the LPN to RN Bridge program or if there is anyone who is going through it now. If you are going through the bridge program now did you feel adequately prepared when you joined the 2nd year RN students. I have been an LPN for 3 years and I am nervous that I do not remember enough to be a strong RN student!!

So I keep hearing different things about Bio142. Hard or not? Is bio142 REALLY that hard for TCC??

Say, if I took it this summer term'11 with an easy psych class? I might be gone for a week fall term and I dont want my potential grade to suffer... I'm applying in September.

Has everyone struggled with A&P 2? For required skill and study type, how do they differ? I am in 141 presently, with no other classes and and getting a avg. 94% so far..
