Hey all

Ive been a PC girl for quite awhile. Im thinking about getting a Mac eventually. The new Macbook to be more specific or what ever new mac laptop comes out when i get the hunkering to buy a new laptop. Any thoughts from Mac users out there, anyone who has had both pc and mac laptops?

Thanks

What is with the condescending ... you're so glad this isn't life or death information. Don't accuse me of spreading misinformation when I haven't...I never said the Mac OS was going to get infected...use of the Windows OS ... which is what Apple is promoting ... 'here comes the viruses.' So, get your facts straight before you or your consultant goes off on some rant about something I didn't say.

Well, that's just great ... and something a Mac user who's not had much experience with viruses would say."

LIZZ, I believe you've said it all. The end!

Exactly!!! All I can tell you is this was the best purchase ever. I love my huge imac, it is worlds different than running windows.

As a pc user who is looking seriously into Mac . . . .why in the world would I want to even use Windows if I switch? I'm not that happy with it in the first place.

For me personally, I'll be very happy with all that comes with Mac.

I can email, right? I can cruise the net, right? I can log onto allnurses? I can do photo stuff?

No worries . . . sunny, you are funny . . . (sunny spits and crosses herself). ;)

This is driving me crazy! It's Mac - not MAC. It's shorthand for Macintosh, not an acronym.

Anyway, I switched to Mac in 2002 after the worst experience w/ Dell computers. I do still use Windows when I have to (mainly at work), but at home I run it on my own system that I built myself by hand. That computer hardly ever gets turned on honestly, and I built it entirely due to boredom.

My husband is a die-hard PC fan himself but even he doesn't have much crap to say about Macs these days and he understands my love for them. There are still a lot of people who believe Apples are the same computers that they were just 5 or 10 years ago, even though they haven't touched one since 1999. They are so different now, and that's why they are gaining in popularity. You CAN upgrade them yourself (the extent of which depends on if you have a desktop or laptop though). The Macbook has an easily accessible SATA harddrive that can be switched out as easily as replacing RAM.

I take my Macbook to class with me every day. I don't have binders filled with thousands of powerpoints printed on dead trees. It's all on my Macbook, which has never crashed since I've had it.

And since this was brought up - they make Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) for Mac so there's really no issue with switching between the 2 systems. I've never had an issue with sending documents back and forth between people.

Truthfully you won't even miss windows!! I would never go back to windows OR a pc, in fact I don't care if Mac now offers windows-- who needs it??

ahhhhhhhhhhh.... just found this thread and thought I'd refresh it a bit.

I'm all giddy, because I've just ordered a brand spanking new Mac Book Pro !!! booyahsmiley.gifhapydancsmil.gif wootsmiley.gif

I've been wanting one for awhile now...... my son got a MacBook Pro 4 yrs ago when he joined the Navy, and swore then he'd never, EVER go back to Windows, Microsoft, and now the dreaded Vista. He's the one that turned me on to Macs, as I didn't know much about them before, and went with the "usual".

Then last year, his GF gave me her old Mac "Clamshell" she used for years before she upgraded. So I got her little antique, and it was great just learning my way around.

So now a year has passed, and while my PC still runs fine, I've been craving a good Mac laptop. So I ordered mine last noc online from the Apple Store, and it's on its way!!! hi5.gif

I can hardly wait for it to arrive. As someone mentioned above, my son agrees that the Mac support peeps are simply the BEST. Really friendly and really WANTING to assist you.. never have that "attitude" you hear on the other end of the phone with the "others".

Not that he's had to use them much, but still... nice to know.

Everything I have learned and experienced with Mac so far has been above and beyond my expectations. I can see why they are more expensive.. as with anything else, "ya get what ya pay for"! But in the long haul, they are worth every penny and then some.

I can't wait.. is it here yet? :D

I can't wait.. I can't wait.. I can't wait..................... blissysmile.gif

The only thing I can think of that I still need an answer for is where and how to make smilies Mac compatible in emails.

Incredimail is suppose to be working becoming Mac compatible.. but they've been saying that for years. :stone

I have a hard time writing/emailing without my beloved smilies, so I hope someone has some answers for this... or that Mac would come up with some rabbit in a hat for me.

Thanks again for all the great responses, keep them coming.

From what i have seen it really is a matter of preference as someone mentioned. It also seems as if you either love mac or hate macs. Definately feeling the love for macs on this thread lol.

Im definately going to make the leap to mac on my next laptop purchase. If i hate it, then i know not to get another one, but it seems to me that Mac has come a long way and its worth giving them a chance.

Anyone had a mac laptop for more than 2 years? Wondering what the "shelf life is" how often have you had to upgrade to a completely new system. Ive been upgrading to new pc's every 2 years it seems, just wondering if the same thing applies to macs?

cheers

Yes.. my son has had his MacBook Pro for four years now, and hasn't had to upgrade a thing. Still runs just as fast as it ever did.. has had NO problems with his whatsoever.. NADA. Hasn't had the first complaint. No repairs, his shelf life has been more than four years now, and still like new.

STEVIELYNN -Just wanted you to know that studies show that you're more likely to be a democrat if you use a MAC. So does this mean you've seen the light politically too? Kidding!!

Love it ! (((Steph))) :D

Hi there, i did get a macbook, its about a year old now... I LOVE IT! I'm uber jealous cause you are getting the new macbook the one with the new metal shell. Lord help me that thing is gorgeous. My only complaint about the macbook line i have is that the plastic cracks ive already taken mine in once to be fixed which they gave back to me the same day i took it in but now i have to take it in again. I guess thats why they changed the body of the new line. I still have my old arthritic Dell laptop but honestly ive hardly have to default to it, ive learned ways and means around getting things done. I got the iphone this year to, loves it.

Enjoy your mac!

Oh, believe me, I'm loving it already... I keep going back to the Mac webite and Apple store, and just droooooooooooling over the pics. :p

I know.. my son was jealous, too... his Pro was all aluminum 4 yrs ago, ( I think the Pro version has always been aluminum, the MacBook itself I believe came in white... that's what his GF had up until this year.. she just upgraded, too! LOL)..but mine has some newer perks that his didn't back then.

I really like the all glass screen.. no frame around it at all. Yummy ! :D

He's going to be real helpful if I have questions.. while I have the basics down on maneuvering my way around on a Mac, there is so much yet to be learned, to take full advantage of all its wonderful benefits! The online tutorials will be great, too... I've tried to watch them, and had to download Quicktime, which I did THREE times on my PC here, and still.. I only get the sound, with a green screen, so I can't watch the tutorials even until I get my Mac... unless I want to watch them on the old clamshell... nah.. I'll wait.

I was complaining to my son about it, and he said.. well.. what did you expect from a windows system? I told him I downloaded the windows version of Quicktime.. specifically FOR mocrosoft windows, and it still simply doesn't work !!!

He just laughed and repeated himself.. "uh.. yeh... Mom.. that's cuz you have windows .......... and windows just sux. It's that simple....." LOL !

I'm going to be like that poster in the beginning of this thread who stayed up three nocs just playing with it and figuring everything out, and enjoying every delicious minute of it !!! I know I won't sleep, either, I'll just want to play with it, organize it, see what all the neat stuff is on it.....

I'll want to take 2 weeks off, jsut to play with my new baby !!! :lol2:

You'll love it jnette! I was PC all my life until 2 years ago when I decided to go to the dark side. The support when I needed it was wonderful (and they spoke perfect English) and they were so patient. Everything runs just as fast as the day I bought it. Graphics are much much better and everything is just easier.

And no, I still have yet to figure out how to do smilies and post pics in posts.

You know the saying "once you go Mac, you won't go back."
