Hi, I am creating a thread for those applying to Thomas Jefferson University's Fact 1 or 2 Program for pre fall 2024. Please feel free to share any concerns, stats, admission process, interview questions, etc!
Provisional Approval Status
As some of you may know, the University has been placed under provisional approval status because of falling below the pass rate of 80% in 2022. It has not affected the accreditation status of the school as they have two years which would be 2024. I wanted to know if anyone had any more insight or opinions on this matter as our cohort would be graduating after those 2 years, in May 2025. Accreditation status is very important for nursing programs as this can directly impact the ability to sit for the NCLEX. I wanted to see if anyone else saw this update and their opinions on if this and if it is changing anyones decisions after already submitting a deposit? The past rate for 2022 was literally .4 off but I am still a little worried on the future pass rates for 2023 and 2024 as those have not been released. I feel like we would have a better idea after seeing the 2023 scores but I am not sure when those get released.
I also wanted to ask if anyone got any updated emails regarding orientation or anything like that after confirming their enrollment decision?

This basically gets decided by whether or not my class passes. I'll just say, I absolutely would not be going here if there was a chance of accreditation being pulled while I was in school. If it's pulled after I graduate, it won't affect me at all, but you could very well have to restart if it's pulled while you're in school.

Hi, than you for sharing. Do you have any insight on if you think the class will pass with an over 80% rate? It is difficult to hear that there is a chance of accreditation being lost but I think this university has stressed the changes they have made and how they do want to improve this. It also was .4 off the 80% mark but it is unfortunate to see that they were one of the six schools in PA that were placed under provisional status. I am left a little conflicted as I have already made a deposit and would be graduating in 2025 so I have no idea if the school would still be accredited till then. Please let me know if you do have any insight or more information on this it would greatly be appreciated. Also when would you be graduating from the school?

I got the email and I have been mulling it over ever since. Absolutely filled with dread LOL. Im also appalled.. a 79%?! Thats freaking low for a school as reputable as TJU. Yea, when it boils down to it reputation doesn't matter. But in this case, when a school boasts their (previously) high NCLEX score and their reputation, now it freakin matters. I'm so anxious and we aren't even in 2024 yet. I've been trying to communicate with my sister about it as shes an NP, she just says the only thing it would jeopardize is whether or not you want to go to a grad program. Once you have your RN, the provisional status doesn't mean jack. However, seeing as I might want to pursue an NP, I'm freaking out. I plan to email the dean tomorrow. I'm sure her inbox is flooded but they need to be completely transparent in these next few months.

I know I am just so shocked. I carefully planned in order to avoid applying to schools that would even have a chance of this happening so hearing this news is so disheartening. TJU is one of the six schools that were moved to provisional status, which is so bad. I did look at other scores of the six schools placed on this status and schools like Lincoln were getting 50% for years until they removed their accreditation. The only thing really stressing me out is the time length from when we would graduate. There is a chance of the status being lost during the time we go there which is a big NO. I don't even want to risk that and put myself in that situation midway through the program. I feel like it definitely would put us in a difficult position whether or not we want to go to a grad program because it can affect our ability to sit for the NCLEX if the status is lost through our time there. Do you know if it affects our ability to just go to grad school at TJU or anywhere else for NP school? I mean I am sure it doesn't look good when applying. I am just so conflicted right now, and don't even know if I should take the chance. I would most definitely email the dean, I already have and she has replied. I think obviously they are going to support the school and cover up anything they can in order to get us to go but they seem pretty confident with the scores improving. It's like a gamble to take a chance midway through us attending. It is also annoying that most of us have already submitted our deposit so we would be losing that if our plans changed. I wish they notified us sooner, because they had idea of these test scores. At the end of the day we need to make the best decisions for ourselves and like the previous commenter said if there was any chance of the school risking accreditation I would not go. It would not be worth leaving a program midway and losing even more time to obtain the degree.

Not sure why you're saying 6. 23 Pennsylvania schools were put on provisional status last year, including TJU and Temple. I'm in the FACT 1 program now, so I graduate in may. I honestly have no idea if my class will get above an 80%. For ATI tests, the class seems to be getting right at or around the national average.

Where do you guys get this info about the other schools placed on provisional status? I definitely need to tune in LOL.
Also, was TJU placed on provisional approval status last year and again this year? Or does the status last 2 years and it started last year. This is all very new to me and I don't have any insight on it. I was also told that the status "backdates," depending on what year they issue it. So if they placed it in provisional status this year, then like you said, your class will be OK. It's the subsequent classes that suffer.

The provisional status lasts 2 years, with them being placed on it after the 2022 numbers came out this year (79.6%). It is a big dip from prior years, and when I asked them about it, they said that it's because some people who graduated during Covid went and tested in 2022. I have no way to know if that's true though. I got the big email about the accreditation from Dean Marino 3/2023.
incomingrn99 said:Is there any someone can provide sources from the school itself stating this? I just can't really find many sources discussing this, which you would think there would be many to look at especially when it concerns 6 schools in the Philly region itself
TJU sent an email out to students who recently enrolled in the Fact-1 2024 program on 11/8. I only know because I, myself have just gotten one. As for current students, it seems they were notified much sooner. For the 6 schools, the link primor shared has a website link to the Philly Inquierer. Sucks because I can't read it in full since I don't have an account, but the link they posted links to another allnurses forum where people were discussing it.

Ugh 10k sounds so niiice! Even if it is only your associates, there are nursing jobs that offer tuition reimbursement. So not only will it be easy for you to find a good paying job to start, but some jobs will pay for you to get your BSN. My sister went that route but instead, she found a job that payed for her MSN. Pretty sure they paid for all of it but one semester since she enrolled too late, or something along those lines. I don't think you'll have any trouble at all finding a job with your associates but I'd definitely encourage you to do some research!
