I have had this happen occasionally...they're sick enough to exclude but still feel well enough to terrorize you. I keep a stock of activity/coloring books and crayons, and I offer a reward like a sticker if they are quiet enough to let me get some work done. Not always effective, but helps!
Lol, I feel your pain. I remember one kiddo I had like that. None of my regular tricks worked...bribes, coloring books...nada! I finally gave in, put my paperwork away, and focused on talking to him. Luckily it was quiet in my office that day, but once I gave in to him and gave him that attention I actually enjoyed it. Unfortunately, not every day will be quiet enough to allow for that.
Just like Purple said... with those kids I just slow myself down & give them attention. This is the perfect time to teach them how to play tic-tac-toe. You wouldn't believe the number of kids that have no idea how to play that!
Once they learn to play & you let them win every so often they're hooked... and sitting still for a while. When a student comes in I ask them to make 10 tic-tac-toe games on a sheet of paper... etc. It passes the time and it keeps them engaged & happy.
Yep just like what purple scrubs said, sometimes they just need your attention.:hpygrp:
I once had a kinder student who still had tons of energy despite having a temp of 102 and none of my regular tricks worked. The only thing that made him stay put was when I explained to him why he needs to rest and after that I read him a book. He dozed off.

Maybe it's just the mood I'm in today...but I have a K kid here in my office who is waiting on his grandmother to come pick him up...temp is 100.2, teacher brought him in because he felt warm. I called grandmother to come get him, she's on her way, but it's going to take her about 30 minutes. The teacher brought him back into my office with his backpack and coat to wait. He has not closed his mouth since he sat down. He has chattered and talked about everything he can think of, he's running out in the hall talking to people and yelling and waving at them. I had him sit in the blue chair until they call him to the office, but he's hanging upside down in the chair and leaning over the sides and he's just all over the place. I bet I've told him to sit down or quiet down 30 times in the past five minutes. He is absolutely driving me up the wall. Maybe I just need a break LOL Don't think the chances are too good of that happening anytime soon!
