This job sucks. Please Help!

I have been working as a nurse for a little over one year- I have been doing neurotele and medsurg nursing- I am currently in school for my MHA but regardless I am loathing this job as a staff nurse. I am depressed because of this job, exhausted because of this job and hating my life because of this job. I never expected or anticipated the amount of ******** I have to deal with- between crazy patients, charting nazis, educational tests, etc. I am ready to go to my primary for an antidepressant. I don't know any alternatives I could pursue at this moment. This job literally is making men an anxious mess and I am not that person. Any advice? Thanks in advance

Look for another job?

but the charting Nazis are everywhere. :cautious:

Plant a tree? Take a walk in the sun?

Check out an old thread I started , Do we need to take drugs.. in order to do our job?

I can commiserate completely. I realized in the first year, that nursing was an extremely difficult job .. and wanted out. That was way back in the day when it was a lot easier then it is now. Being the tough chick that I am, I stuck it out. The following 34 years had major highs and major lows.

Some days I am sorry I ever became a nurse, some days I am not.

I myself (tough chick that I am), would never resort to medicating myself in order to go to work. I felt an antidepressant was not going to make my job any easier.

You have that golden one year of experience. You have many alternatives now. Start scouring the job boards and see what you are qualified for. Insurance companies are begging for nurses. Disease management, for instance.

In the meantime, keep on nursing with a smile.. just knowing you have a plan to get out.. will make all the difference.

No more pity party.. go get the position you want.

What types of jobs are you planning to pursue with you MHA? I recommend looking for a job now that would flow into that type of job. If you are investing in an MHA, you must have some interest in management or "office work" of some kind. Look for that type of job.

Find something else. Try case management.
