I have worked for the same hospice as a case manage for 4.5 years....love it, love to patients, staff, and have good evaluations. Was full time, for the past 2 years part time /PRN. With the economy like it is, nobody has gotten raises ina couple of years, and mileage reimbursement is not great. But...good place, good people, etc... Anyhow, suddenly upper management decided I should be straight PRN. Well, i say okay, but if I will not get PTO I need to have my pay adjusted accordingly....which is 10 percent as we get one hour per ten worked. They wuss around for a week and then tell me they will give me 50 cents more an hour. i just stared at my boss, and he said is that not going to cut it? I just said "no" and walked away, i was afraid i would cry or cuss.
Well now i feel like I just need to go, if that is what they think of me. i have been there longer than anyone except one other nurse, I take full time call tho I am part time, I do anything they need, work FT when someone is out sick or on vacAtion, do after hours stuff, and evidently all that matters to the powers that be is cutting corners. I am angry, hurt, and sad that i feel like I have to leave to keep my self respect.

get the F out of there, with your experience you can find PRN work at an agency maybe not as a case manager, but non the less work, and im sure you will get paid alot more ....value yourself, or nobody else will
Not to be trite but look before you leap lest you jump from the frying pan into the fire.
Another agency might have better pay but crappier hours or more call or crap coworkers. Lots of times there is more money offered for a reason.
I'd try to line up another job but perhaps you can renegotiate with the employer if they want to keep you. They possibly are willing to make the deal a little sweeter if they know you aren't inclined to accept a lowball offer.
You are taking this pretty personaly. The reality may be that reimbursments are down, patient loads irratic, or the cost of the hospice protocal meds is higher than the reimbursment. Your management looked at the options and decided a part time nurse with some PRN flexability didn't fit into the staffing pattern as efficiently as they would have liked. Right or wron- it wasn't personal- it was a $$$ decision. Your only course is to decide on what you must be paid to do the job they require. If they can't offer it- look elswhere. Be careful:- a bird in the hand..., and :the grass is always greener...., are often very true in job searches.
I've been where you are, but then it was 30 years age. I quit and never looked back. I did many great jobs over time and found a lot of learning to be had. There are a lot of jobs out there and many for more money. Look around and see what your options are. Don't be afraid to venture into new areas, you might find a great life waiting for you. I agree the economy is bad, but there are always jobs for nurses. Don't sell yourself short, don't be willing to accept less then what you are worth. You may need additional training, but that is never wasted. As I have told many nurses, go forth and save the world.:redbeathe
There are simply too many unemployed nurses in American society at the present time for me to believe this statement. A staggering number of new grads and many experienced nurses are currently jobless when they are desperate for nursing jobs.I agree the economy is bad, but there are always jobs for nurses.
I personally would not quit one job without having another one lined up.
NEVER quit a job until you have a new lined up!!!! I would try to negotiate with them first b/c once a benefit is taken away its really hard to get back especially if it saves the company money. Remember you are there to earn a living....you offer them a service and they pay you in return ..so now you have to decide if the pay and benefits are enough for what you provide. It sounds like you are really happy there and that is worth a lot...what if you made
made somewhere else but are miserable????? You need to weigh all the pros and cons.
i think i am somewhat on the same boat. i am a staff reliever, for 2 1/2 months no assurance of getting promoted as a staff nurse, earning $6 PER DAY (yes, that happens in our country), 15+ toxic patients and relatives and the deal breaker of all, the admins who don't know how to make their employees happy and does nothing but to suspend a nurse weekly.
now, i do sound complaining, and i am. but in this case, i don't feel the drive to continue. they say look for a job before you get out of your current but i don't have the strength to go on already. i need your enlightenment guys.

While I agree that OP should be entitled to a different pay scale, I would strongly suggest NOT quitting until there's another job on the horizon. If you're willing to fight over X.00 per hour, can you afford to be without employment?
