i am just curious...i went to a hospital facility today to have a computer training for charting so that incase i get asigned to this hospital i will now what to do...it lasted for 6 hours...and ta da....that is no pay as said by my agency....is this usual or what?...and now theyre telling me that after this training i have to attend another one so that will paved the way to having assignments for this hospital...do you think its a waste of time?..

My Agency pays for training as well as 2 hr orientation if it is a new facility.

I wonder what the board of labor would think about working without compensation... hmmmm...

all your opinions just make me think seriously about this agency...would it taint my record if i directly applied to the hospital theyre trying to place me for a part time or prn position?...just a thought..

If they are already trying to place you there, and have submitted your documents to them, then you will have problems. Your paperwork already lists you as an employee of that agency. You will definitly be burning your bridgs behind you. And most reputable facilities will not cross that line because of the papers that you have already signed with your agency. There is usally one in the packet that states you will not take a job with that facility for a specified period of time, if you do, it has to be in agreement with the agency and hospital, and they are usually not going to pay the fee that will be required.

thank you for this!...yes, they have already submitted my documents to that hospital for approval so i could get some assignments to that facility..the thing that really irks me with my agency is that they seemd to be so novice about having me placed at this hospital that they have to ask another agency of the requirements...i just hope they will get me placed as soon as pssible..

Once they have submitted your documents to a facility as their employee, you cannot be hired by that facility.

Why did you pick this agency, especially if you are saying that they are such novices? Did you actually do any research on them?

i have read good recommendations on them and just knew about them through the internet.have not really talked to nurses that are employed by them.one reason is that i just relocated here so i really dont have a good direct source..anyway, when i applied to them last june they told me that they would be placing me at the hospital near where i live as this hospital needs a lot of nurses.i was glad since this hospital is in the same company as the other hospital i have been previously..they have been planning on placing me into this computer classes since then so i could get a job there and tehy they got it cancelled twice for some reason.and then they would be calling me that i my papers are not complete after 3 weeks..and then finally i had the computer class this week..it took them a month to get me into it..when i was following all this up they said that they have to wait for sombody(who is on vacation) from another staffing agency to get some more info. im new to this agency thing so i really dont know if it really takes awhile to get a placement into a hospital..

Summer can be really slow at a lot of hospitals and they don't need agency during that time.

Good luck to you in whatever you do. I think you have gotten great advice.

oh yes!!..everybody has been very helpful and made me realize a lot of things..i have one question to pose in relation to all this..do you guys have any idea how long shouldnt i be working with this agency so i could get into this hospital..ive weighed all the facts ,opinios and advices and i think im pretty off working in this hospital rather than with this agency.plus i want stability that this agency is not offering...whats the process on quitting if you are an agency nurse?

Generally, you would have signed a contract when you filled out orientation paperwork. It is often a year off from the facility before you can hire on; Check with your Agency. I have heard of the Agency having the facility pay a fee to hire you. I have also heard of the Agency going after their employee for the fee (often in the area of $5,000)

Personally, I would never do that. I consider myself an Agency Nurse and that is where my loyalty lies. I do work for the best Agencies around and find they treat me better then the facilities treat their staff.

Let us know how you make out.

It is what is written into the contract that you signed, not what we think. Ity is spelled out in very simple English............you need to read thru and see what it says.
