Things you'd LOVE to tell coworkers...and get away with it!

Nurses Relations

Published

Please don't label this thread "negative". It is meant to be fun.

Your scrubs are ugly.

I don't think you are "cute" when you get all googley-eyed and giggly around the young docs. I think it makes nurses look bad.

I cannot BELIEVE you were nominated for A Daisy Award! Did you nominate yourself?

It's called deodorant, use it.

Do your own assessment and stop badgering me for every single detail during report.

I swear I am going to put Ex Lax all over my lunch so the next time someone calls out for the runs, I will know it is you who keeps stealing my food!

Yes, my stethoscope is nice and it was expensive. Buy your own.

No time to help me turn my patient, huh? Yet, every time you need help, I have been there for you.

Your situational awareness sucks. While you are browsing the latest deals on the internet, I am drowning. Look around and help out your coworkers.

I'm happy you look rested and ready for your shift. Next time get here 15 minutes earlier so I can leave on time and be rested and ready for you.

No, you don't ALWAYS get the crappy assignment. I don't think you'd be happy with ANY assignment.

If you're sooooo sick of this place- leave.

I wouldn't let you touch my dead dog let alone any of my family members.

Where did you get your MD license?

Bit extreme.

Actually, if you've ever seen one of these, you wouldn't think so.

My stepfather's doctor had the gall to tell me footcare wasn't important for a heavy smoking, diabetic, overweight man. After I picked my jaw up off the ground I had to bite the inside of my mouth to stop myself from asking which Cracker Jack box he got his medical licence from.

First off, not only are you failing at the look you are wanting to achieve, but it is completely inappropriate for work. Don't come on a busy med-surg floor in open toed platforms. Don't wear velour sweatpants that still manage to be see-through, with awful looking underwear clearly visible. DO NOT wear skintight V-neck t-shirts to show off your new pair of silicone fun bags. These confused LOM do not need the stimulation, and the LOL's look like they just might have a fainting spell from your revealing look. And for God's sake...your hair looks like straw. Either quit bleaching the crap out of it every couple of weeks, or invest in a really good deep hydrating treatment. It looks like it would crinkle if I grabbed a handful, its just plain damaged. YOU ARE A NURSE, a professional, try to look like one.

Second, the shift starts at 8am. Not 8:02, not 8:05, and certainly not later than that. Once in a while would be annoying, but if that's all it was, and you at least had the decency to call to let us know you would be late, it might pass. But EVERY day? EVERY ONE?! You have the gall to stroll in with your fake smile, your cup of coffee from the atrium right across the hall from our department that is the reason you are late every day, and take time to chat before taking report? REALLY?!

And third, do not even dare to give me attitude when you finally make your way to take report from me and I hand you the charts, tell you nothing important happened, and walk off. A) You and I both know that you have had these patients every day this week, and so have I. B) Since we have both had these patients all week, I have had to deal with you coming in late every day as well, and I am now tired of it. C) I was ready to give you a nice, detailed report 20 minutes ago. It is now 20 minutes PAST the end of my shift, it was the night from hell, and all I want to do is go home and sleep. You are an adult, anything that was important was charted, you can read it from the chart. kthanxbye

Ugh, all to the same nurse...

And we wonder why nurses are so mean.

Goodness, please stop being such a partypooper.

The whole point of venting is to get it off our chests so we don't end up saying it directly to the target. Would that be better? We are around each other all the time, it is only normal that we would get on each other's nerves, even when we genuinely like our colleagues. And we are also human, which means we are not going to like every one we work with.

Oh yes ...isn't that annoying.

'The one way my way' thinking style ..... what other professional thinks like that ?

I am so over working with 'professionals' who handle information at that level.

My message to the 'one way, my way' types ....

- Get some proper university education now (obviously some nurses 'have it' naturally - but you are going to have to do the hard slog)

- Find some sophistication

- Find some manners ...it's rude to nitpicky someone. It's negative and not particularly effective - it also easily crosses the bullying threshold. If you have no idea have to behave ...then you can start by broadening your social circle and start learning

Ok, I haven't read all of the posts on this thread yet, but I just HATE the attitude some BSN/MSN holders have for those of us with diplomas or ADNs. First of all, I would much rather take advice from someone with a diploma and all the bedside experience than someone who has only been in classes, a bunch of them about sociology, management, QM, etc. Those don't make you a good nurse, anymore than eating a bunch of food makes me a good cook. I've known brilliant CNAs and complete moron BSNs. Those letters don't mean all that much to me if someone is an idiot anyways.

Second, we all pass the same licensing exams. When I transferred my credentials to GA, with the equivalent of a nursing diploma, I still passed the NCLEX, first try, with barely any study time, after one more than minimum # of questions.

PS. Not trying to brag or imply that anyone who DOESN'T pass on the first try is dumb, I was just trying to show that a diploma doesn't make me dumb or less of a nurse.

Ugh, pet peeve...

I'd love to tell a few nurses "Just put on your big girl panties and deal with it!"

I know it's been said, but I love team work. It is one of those things that makes or breaks a work place. So even if I am an agency nurse, and it is my first week here, I will do my best to help all of you in rounds. So when I do all of my things, and help with almost half of your work load, making me finish my charting a lot later than I would have otherwise, be appreciative. And the next day, when MY rounds go straight to heck, and you are ALL finished and charting and watching me run around, that is not ok. Because for one, I will be done much later than planned and you can bet your tushy your facility will be charged the OT. And for two, you can rest assured that not only will I only bother with my own assignment from now on, but as soon as my agreed to 2-week contract is over you will never be seeing my face on this floor again.

Please do not text me on my day off to have me call you so you can rehash the bad night you had. I'm off, I do have a life.

You don't work with my specialty team, so why are you badmouthing my team to all of the new hires, and scaring them to the point of not wanting to work with us and taking the chances of being laid off instead? You've never worked the specialty nor worked with any of the team members, so don't be talking about things you have no knowledge of!

I am old enough to me the mother of most of my current co-workers. Every now and then I have to say out loud "Do NOT make me turn this car around!!"

I may be new, but I'm not stupid. My gut said something was wrong (and I articulated exactly WHAT the problem was), and you ignored me, on top of ignoring me you tried your best for 12 hours to make me look like an idiot. Unfortunately I was right.

It is bad enough I have to see my patient's butt, I don't want to see yours, pull up your scrubs, especially when you are wearing thongs.
