If you could have an open, honest conversation with your instructors - classroom or clinical - what would you tell them?
Here are some of my thoughts:
(1) Please make sure that everyone follows the rules & meets the requirements. Don't let some students make their own rules while others work hard to follow every rule! While there are always times exceptions must be made, the same students are often getting away with everything.
(2) When I'm in clinical, please just step back and allow me to do the task I have to do. Don't stand over me asking questions! Your running commentary makes me a nervous wreck. As long as I'm doing my task correctly, observe & keep quiet! If I do something wrong, please explain it to me and give my another opportunity to prove I can do it.
(3) Please ensure your expectations are clear and consistant. If you want our weekly patient write-ups a certain way, tell us. Don't change your expectations without letting us know!! The bottom line: most of us are working so hard to do our best! Tell us what you want from us and we'll always do what we can to get a good grade!
Staff note: Also, don't miss the Things you would love to say to your fellow nursing students! thread
4. dont give me a test you couldnt answer yourself. if you are reading the answers and cant pronounce the words, my guess is you didnt make the test and probably wouldnt have passed it either.
I totally agree with this..
or how about when give a test and the answer is WRONG, it not what our book or their handout side it's what they said in class and it was the information they learned 700 years ago!

amen!!!!!!!
the other day, our instructor was going over a quiz and couldn't tell us what one of the words meant. ugh!
Thank you for being such a great example, inspiration & help to all of us this year. You are amazing and I hope to be exactly like you some day. Thanks for not giving up on us, and for being there to listen and help when it was needed.
And thank you for pushing us so hard and being so demanding. I know that will make me a better nurse.
Why can't you give me any decent feed back on my data tools?
Why do you just sit there with that empty smile?
Don't you realize that when you start rambling off things that I don't understand which direction you are trying to point me in?
Who suggested to you that you become a clinical teacher?
Feels good to get it out. Can't wait for our teacher evaluations at the end of the semester.
YOU ARE FREAKIN CODEPENDENT!! YOU NEED HELP!
I WILL NOT delegate tasks that are ILLEGAL to delegate no matter what you say.
Just because you think that's how you would do it and can come up with a convoluted ridiculous nonsensical explanation does NOT make you right, especially when everyone disagrees with you.
You are prejudiced against the mentally ill and it REALLY shows!
Trying to convince about how right you are when I have already conceded the discussion without agreeing with you demonstrates HOW CODEPENDENT YOU ARE!
The doctor is not GOD.
I am getting a BSN not an "RN degree." Besides, half the class has no intention of spending a second on a floor as an RN. Everyone is bound for grad school. Figure it out.
Ms. B: You make us work for it, you are not always right but we love you anyway.
Quit hovering. I really am capable of preforming this task, but you're making me really nervous.
How the %*$#%$# am I supposed to get all this studying done when you keep assigning busywork?
I am not born knowing how to answer nursing test questions. I was a straight-A student before this class, and now I am failing. I am studying my heiney off. Yes, I am an ''adult learner,'' but I and my classmates could use a little help with these test questions.
Thank you for taking the time to teach me. I know being a nursing instructor is not the easiest job.

FFS, proofread your tests! Although I know what you MEANT to say, I don't think that 'tachpena' is a symptom of pulmonary embolus.
