That's true, but I find myself questioning their professionalism when I get emails from teachers, colleagues, etc that misspell words or don't use proper grammar.

When I am turning in school papers and making a resume and stuff, I make sure to have my stuff proofread and I take time to ensure it's done properly. When I am posting on a message board I am in a hurry, often type faster than I think and I admit, I am lazier to proofread. I post and submit, sometimes when I see some pretty bad errors I go back and edit. But mostly it's as is. I try to be cognizant of what I am typing in an informal setting but I am not going to spend all this time perfecting it. I do struggle with certain aspects of grammar and spelling and I have tried to learn them over and over again, but something just doesn't click with certain words. I have other strengths though and know I am an intelligent person in-spite of my imperfect spelling and grammar.

That said though, I absolutely think in certain settings it is very unprofessional. Last week I was emailing a few prospects on house cleaners. One girl had a great ad, seemed really friendly and had a great price, but her reply email looked like something I would expect from a 14 year old. I didn't correspond with her further because of that. An informal email with a friend though, nah I am not going to take all the time to perfect it. My friends accept me for who I am. Bad spelling and grammar and all :p

Well I don't "no" what the F this has to "dew" with nursing "butt:"

Hear, here!

"Women" when they mean "woman".

"No" when they mean "know".

"Advise" when they mean "advice".

"Effect" when they mean "affect".

Ugh! Those are my biggest peeves!

I never correct anyone, except (not "accept") my kids.

I won't even text them using "text speak".

Beyond what I must teach my kids, I don't consider myself to be "The Grammar Police"!

But I still feel annoyed when I see really really bad spelling and grammar!

Exactly why I have it proofread by a friend that is a grammar and spelling nazi. lol

I have to admit though, the new Microsoft 2010 does a pretty good job picking up the words that are spelled correctly but used improperly now. I also do better at spotting errors in work outside of my own. My teenager dreads when I look over his stuff. I was shocked at how well I did in my college entrance placement test for the grammar and spelling. It was a lot of proofreading stuff and I scored really well. Didn't expect it since it's such a weak area for me.

This is frustrating! However, I must say that the funniest things I've ever seen have been iphone autocorrect mistakes. My students were having a bake sale a month ago and I texted my husband and offered to bring home baked goods; at least, that's what I thought I typed. He seemed extremely enthusiastic in his response, and I then noticed that I had been autocorrected and had instead offered to bring home "naked goods."

You need to see the website D*mn you autocorrect!
