The Wait for Community College Nursing Program -_-

SO I have been talking to an advisor about taking my pre reqs needed for Malcolm X College for their nursing program and she assured me that with my pre reqs, having taken the TEAS, when I do, and getting accepted, once I do, that there might be a 1-2 year wait for me. This is really discouraging. I was looking into other programs and the tuition, for example at Chamberlain is $90.000 and it really is discouraging me. Like, I really dont want to wait and wait and wait. I hate feeling like my life is wasting on by.

Are there any other people out there in my shoes? She said I should be starting in the Fall of 2016 or the Fall of 2017. Thats really discouraging for me. Should I just wait it out? My only reason for waiting it out is because its a cheaper alternative, but then I don't want to just be wasting my days... I mean work, yeah, but I want to be in school....

I got very discouraged with the fact that even after prereqs, for an ADN I'd be waiting at least a year before I could start school. Plus normal school would be a very hard thing for me due to work scheduling, so I just opted to do Excelsion, since it's an option for me.

I got very discouraged with the fact that even after prereqs, for an ADN I'd be waiting at least a year before I could start school. Plus normal school would be a very hard thing for me due to work scheduling, so I just opted to do Excelsion, since it's an option for me.

What is Excelsion? A school? Do you like it? Info please???

Sorry I meant Excelsior. It's an online school for LPNs or Paramedics with previous healthcare exprience to get an ADN

Hi there, I recently was in your boat. I applied at two different colleges within in my immediate area for this past January and got denied. I had A's and B's and scored a 90 on my HESI exam. I too was also looking at dropping a bunch of money just so I wouldn't have to wait around after the immediate denial. After doing more research I expanded my applications to one other college that's a little bit more of a commute but still doable if I alternate between using the metrolink and my car on certain days of the week and I actually got into their nursing program on the first try. What I'm saying is, don't give up just yet. Expand your research on colleges that may be a little farther away. There's usually other alternate means of transportation that can still get you there without breaking the bank.

I don't know what other schools are in your area, but I would look in to all other nursing schools. Are you able to relocate to be closer to a different school? I am trying for four different schools. My number one pick (if I am accepted) start this fall, my number two pick starts Spring 16, andmy three and four picks start Fall 16.

I would feel the same way as you (like life is wasting, or I was standing still rather than moving forward) if I had to wait until Fall 2017.
