The Wait for Community College Nursing Program -_-

SO I have been talking to an advisor about taking my pre reqs needed for Malcolm X College for their nursing program and she assured me that with my pre reqs, having taken the TEAS, when I do, and getting accepted, once I do, that there might be a 1-2 year wait for me. This is really discouraging. I was looking into other programs and the tuition, for example at Chamberlain is $90.000 and it really is discouraging me. Like, I really dont want to wait and wait and wait. I hate feeling like my life is wasting on by.

Are there any other people out there in my shoes? She said I should be starting in the Fall of 2016 or the Fall of 2017. Thats really discouraging for me. Should I just wait it out? My only reason for waiting it out is because its a cheaper alternative, but then I don't want to just be wasting my days... I mean work, yeah, but I want to be in school....

Your original post was slightly confusing. Are you saying that you have NOT taken the Nursing Prerequisite classes as of yet? It seems to me that you are getting ahead of yourself. If I was in your shoe and did not take the Nursing Prerequisites, then I would focus on getting them done and then worrying about getting into an ADN or BSN program. The most critical thing to do right now is getting your prerequisites done as soon as possible and yes, a Community College is your best option to do so, due to the lower cost of Community Colleges Courses. Are you planning on going to the Community College Full time or Part-time?

Depending on job availability in your area for LPNs, you might consider doing an LPN first and then do an LPN-to-RN Bridge. That route seems to work for some individuals, especially if you have to work full time. Now is also a good time to weigh the pros and cons of an ADN versus a BSN Program.

You're right. I scheduled an appointment with an advisor for Monday morning to register for classes so I can start taking my pre reqs. I know Im jumping ahead of myself is because I think long term. But you're right. I need to slow down and take care of the basics first.

Search "scottsdale community college" on google. I recently talked to one of their advisors and heard that they have no wait list for Fall 2015 (well.. they used to,but it decreased to ZERO this year.) Hope this helps!!
