Hi everyone! Thought it would be helpful to make a thread for students planning on applying for UBC's Nursing Program for 2024! Use this as a platform to ask questions and share info for nursing applications ? Good luck to you all!!

I was thinking the same thing. I just took screenshot of the deadline on the applicant portal as proof. Also I checked the main website as well. It looks like the updated on there too. Instead of the 15th it says the January 17, 2024

Yeah, that's your best bet, I was gonna also submit tomorrow, but I think it's just better to be safe and do it tonight!

Hey guys!

Has anyone taken the CASPER for this session? My friend and I just finished ours, and we hope that it went well for everyone else! If you haven't taken it, good luck!!

Hi I just finished mine as well seemed challenging and little bizarre as well. How did it go for you

I'm taking my CASPER test in February.. anyone who has taken it, how was it for y'all and do you have any tips/advice/things you'd do differently??

It went pretty decent for me. I had practiced with my friend beforehand using other party websites, and I think the actual test was easier than the CASPER! However, I did get cut off a few words in one or two of my video and typed responses. How do you think you did?

I think, overall, it went better than I expected! My friend and I practiced together for maybe about 3 hours combined and also read a bit of the BeMo Casper Prep book to get a sense of how to structure answers. Your safest bet is to do the Casper practice directly from the Altus website because I think that was close to the real thing. I would also try to think of personal scenarios and how you overcame/learned from them to prepare. But I wouldn't rely too much on what secondary sources say; just take it with a grain of salt because I feel like you can't really study how to be empathetic, haha.

I agree with you it was a little easier than the practice tests English is my second language my typing speed was not too great I could not proof read my answers so minor spelling errors are a concerns otherwise I tired to stay non judgmental and tried to be professional I did not leave any question though I hope it spelling error would not be a problem

I'm glad we were able to complete it! They definitely don't take spelling or grammar into too much consideration as long as you are able to be non-judgmental and empathetic!!

Hi everyone, I'm a current UBC student and I just found this thread. I feel bad I didn't find it any sooner as I also had many questions about the supplemental application. Anyways, I also did my casper on Jan 18 and it says on the website that results been delivered so fingers cross??

I don't know why I thought GPA would be counted from September to May of the year we're applying to but from here I found out that December is the cut off. That's a bad news for me as I got a B and a B- last year and took all GPA boosters this term? other than that I still have about 85% average until for the recent 30 credits until December. I don't feel super awsome about casper and my average is probably not that competitive?

Anyways let's hope for the best. After much rant, I'm taking BIOL 155 (full year course) this year, it's final grade would be in my transcript in May, would this course count towards my GPA?

No, these grades will not count to your GPA.

Your GPA will be calculated on the most recent non-nursing, university transferable undergraduate level credits up to December 31, 2023 so long as these marks appear on your transcript and are submitted by January 31, 2024.

The cut-off is to allow the admissions team to make decisions as early as possible. As conditional offers traditionally go out in May, they would not have time to make decisions if the cut-off was later.

Just wondering, are you all applying for any other nursing program other than UBC? I'm thinking about BCIT September intake but I'm not sure what the pros and cons are.

If you already have a Bachelor's degree, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) has an Advanced Entry program and it is blended. It is longer than UBC's program but still shorter than a 3-year program. It is first qualified, first served so apply ASAP.

Many people who have applied to UBC's program have applied to KPU as a backup.
