The University of British Columbia (UBC) BSN 2025 Entry
Great response in addressing that you don't have to worry about being assigned a placement outside of BC or the Lower Mainland but an important clarification: you do not get to choose where you want to go. Here is some info from the FAQ last placement process: Why do I need to indicate that I can travel to areas outside Vancouver? This is very helpful to the placement process because it provides additional details for possible matches. Consider communities where you live, that you can easily commute to or have family or friends that you can stay with. We place students in communities across the lower mainland including Tri-Cities: Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Langley, Surrey, White Rock, Delta, North Shore, Squamish, Richmond, Burnaby, New Westminster, and Vancouver. What if I do not get my preferred area of interest for a placement? Every effort is made to match students to suitable placements based on availability, learning needs and stated areas of interest. There is no guarantee that UBC will be able to secure a specific unit or practice area of your choice, however, you will be placed where you can successfully consolidate skills for entry to practice and complete the BSN program. What criteria are used to decide whether I am assigned to an out-of-town/out of province (OOP) placement? Out-of-town placements are generally made for students who indicate they are returning or relocating to a community after graduation. To be considered for out-of-town placement, students must meet specific criteria including being in good academic standing and having exemplified professionalism throughout the program. Any student who had practice or academic challenges and/or who has been on exigency learning plans is required to stay in the Metro Vancouver area where they can be placed at a stable practice site in order to consolidate skills and competencies with full support provided from faculty in the school. Students located in out-of-town areas are placed in their home province before students requesting out of Province placements therefore, opportunities for out of town and/or out of province placements may be limited. Please note if no confirmation received from OOP sites by Dec 1, 2024, a local placement will be assigned. Is there any funding for transportation or accommodation for out of town placements? As per UBC Academic Calendar Regulations, it is the student's responsibility to arrange travel and accommodation in all cases. Students will not be placed out of town unless the student can confirm they have appropriate travel and housing arrangements. There is currently no funding for transportation or accommodation related to placements. Students are expected to make scheduling and transportation arrangements if they wish to go out of town.

No Facebook group is planned for this year. Allnurses also does not allow posting external links to social media (we've been warned). The last two year's did not use their Facebook group. Your welcome package will have details of the NUS communication platform. If you message me (Riley Huntley), I can connect you.

If you already have a Bachelor's degree, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) has an Advanced Entry program and it is blended. It is longer than UBC's program but still shorter than a 3-year program. It is first qualified, first served so apply ASAP. Many people who have applied to UBC's program have applied to KPU as a backup.

No, these grades will not count to your GPA. Your GPA will be calculated on the most recent non-nursing, university transferable undergraduate level credits up to December 31, 2023 so long as these marks appear on your transcript and are submitted by January 31, 2024. The cut-off is to allow the admissions team to make decisions as early as possible. As conditional offers traditionally go out in May, they would not have time to make decisions if the cut-off was later.

All sections are considered required. This is a competitive program to get into; you will be competing people that have applied for the program before and did not get in. It is in your best interest to fill the additional sections with as much information as possible without being repetitive or off topic. Speaking to more than one experience is recommended but be mindful of the limited word count. Ensure the experience ties into the previous sections.
