Published

Hi everyone! Thought it would be helpful to make a thread for students planning on applying for UBC's Nursing Program for 2024! Use this as a platform to ask questions and share info for nursing applications ? Good luck to you all!!

Hi! I'm working on my supplemental application (a little late, I know) and was wondering what people have included under "List of Additional Learning and Accomplishments". Other than my formal education, I don't really have other certificates/experiences that seem relevant. I'm concerned it won't look good on my application. For background, I have a BA in health sciences, and just over 2 years of program coordinating at a large health non-profit. Any advice/tips...?

I wonder if it's mandatory we fill these "additional" sections in or if it'a optional? And if we don't would it look bad?

Hey everyone! Working on the supplemental application (you can tell I've been putting it off until the last minute, LOL) and the 'Influencing Roles & Activities' question in the supplemental application has me tripping up a bit. Are we to write about multiple experiences or just one? And are we supposed to address all of those prompts in the experience we talk about or pick one and stick with it?

I struggled to think of what to write for this one, so I just wrote about 1 experience in detail. But if I'm correct, their wording is in plural so if you have more than 1 experience, you should probably include more than 1. Just my thoughts!

Hi! On the UBCN website it says that the GPA is calculated on the most recent completed 30 transferable credits up to December. I emailed an advisor asking if this was up to December 31st to see if my final transcript for the Fall/Winter 2023 Term (released end of December) would be included.

They responded saying "All of the credits completed by May 31st, 2024 would be considered." This is a huge relief for me, given my average this year is much higher than last years.

Is the UBCN website just outdated then if now more than 30 credits get considered towards GPA? Has anyone heard anything about this?

The official final transcript deadline is May 31, 2024. To meet the requirement of 48 non-nursing, university transferable credits, you need these credits completed and submitted by May 31.

Your GPA, however, will be calculated on the most recent non-nursing, university transferable undergraduate level credits up to December 31, 2023. As long as these marks appear on your transcript and are submitted by January 31, 2024, they will count for your GPA.

Both the communication you received and the website are correct.

All sections are considered required.

This is a competitive program to get into; you will be competing people that have applied for the program before and did not get in. It is in your best interest to fill the additional sections with as much information as possible without being repetitive or off topic.

Speaking to more than one experience is recommended but be mindful of the limited word count. Ensure the experience ties into the previous sections.

Hi! Merry (almost) Christmas! Did any of you guys attend the info session in November? Unfortunately I missed it since I didn't see they were holding one until it was too late. Did they mention the GPA admission average for the September 2023 intake? Also, did they mention anything useful regarding the application or supplemental component? Any information would be great ?

Other interesting information from the September 2023 intake:

Average age - 26 years old

Previous degree - 70% of cohort

Out of province - 10

Cohort size - 150

Anyone else having issues with the word limits in the supplemental? Me and my friend keep getting our responses cut short when we paste them in. They're within the word limit so we have no idea why the last few words/sentences of our responses are being cut off. We even tried typing them in by hand instead of pasting and it still doesn't let us get to 50/250/300 word limit.

I've found that it counts by characters, not words. For instance, according to some of the questions 600 words amounts to 3500 characters with spaces. I had a similar problem where one of my answers was said to be under 600 words but had over 3500 characters and it got cut off so I had to shorten my answers a bit

Hi guys,

Did any of you see the change in the deadline for the UBC Nursing supplemental? Will you all still be submitting tonight (if you haven't already)?

Did the deadline for the UBC Nursing supplemental actually change or is that a mistake. I would the extra day or so to review and edit but I don't want to be late in submitting either

I was also wondering the same. I would submit it tonight just to be safe, but if not, have screenshots of proof that the deadline was extended in case they try to take it back!

I was thinking the same thing. I just took screenshot of the deadline on the applicant portal as proof. Also I checked the main website as well. It looks like the updated on there too. Instead of the 15th it says the January 17, 2024
