You all know! They are exhausting. My mother in law is really going to make me snap one of these days. I am trying, realllllyy trying to be kind. She said I was lazy and should pick up another job since I barely work at all, only 3 days a week. She doesn't understand why I do not like company on my first day off after doing 3 in a row. This is a stay at home mom who has never held a job in her life, not even scooping ice cream in high school. Anyway. Just thought I would vent. I am not lazy. I work hard. I need a day to recover after working 3 in a row. Ugh.
You shouldn't give any explanation as to the fact that you are not lazy and that you work hard. You already know what type of an ignorant person your MIL. At first I thought that she would barge unannounced because you have children and she wanted to stop by for a visit. Imagine how it would be when you do actually have children in the future. Next time, wear your earplugs and let her keep on banging. If she asks why you didn't let her in, reply "Why, was there an emergency?" She will eventually get the idea that life doesn't revolve around her. It seems that she doesn't have much of a social life and she needs company. She should get her own life and let you live your own. Maybe you should park your car far from your house so that she will assume nobody is home. Or encourage her to do some volunteer work or make friends so that you and your husband can spend time by yourselves with her intruding.
I experienced this same things yesterday! My sister and her boyfriend came over and woke me up and then later that day my sisters boyfriend made some comment about me sleeping at 2 in the afternoon. I had just gotten done with my 3rd 12 of the week, I get off at 630 in the AM but drive 30 minutes home, so I often don't get to bed until 730 AM. My fiance said "do you blame her, she worked all night" thank heavens my SO gets it!
I love the days off, but the 12's get tough. I always work at night which makes sleeping that much more difficult. I alsp work for the VA which means I work 80hours per PP. I get to do an extra 8 hour shift every other week. Full time job, full time pay, plus the amount of days off per week that I can live with, I wouldn't trade it for anything except lotto maybe

Hey, don't worry. Your the nurse, your the one getting paid. You actually have a job. Don't care what she thinks, I use to care what others thought of me all the time. I use to even try to please them! My parents have friends who tell them how to live their lives! Can you believe that, ignore them, they have problems not you.
You don't even have to try to make her understand. Look at her, don't take advice from her. Where is she at now lol
Who knows, maybe she doesn't know. Some people judge, but it's because they don't know. You should tell her what you do, maybe she'll be understanding. If not, then she probably has nothing better to do.
