They have a rolled baby blanket under her chin to hide the trach and keep her jaw closed. It makes her look more alive I guess. That one floating around of her with the white hearts over her eyes looks creepy to me.
Those are gauze pads her eyes don't open and must be kept moist by external means.

A local news organization post it on Facebook. I don't think it's a lip piercing. I did at first and I wouldn't put it past mom to do so, but at second glace it think it's just a glare from the shiny lip gloss. I could be wrong, because neither of us are surprised if it is a lip piercing.

I said this a couple times in the other posts but it is indeed her lip gloss (though, I agree, I would be nonplussed if it actually were a piercing).

I can't believe I have never heard about this before. I will admit I haven't caught up completely yet but so far I'm really bothered by that facebook page. I feel like some of the people leaving comments are just as bad as the family. They are arguing something passionately with very little info to back up their statements.
The fact that so many people think the family is doing the right thing is depressing. And I think they hide the trach to give off the impression shes not on a vent anymore though if questioned I'm sure they have plenty of other excuses lined up for why they do it (trach is too grotesque, etc.)

I can't either. It has made national news many times. Each time the family does something new and kind of outrageous, major media outlets report on it.
It is a fascinating and yes, tragic and sad case.
Wikipedia doesn't do a bad job of explaining the basics of the case:

They are arguing something passionately with very little info to back up their statements. You summed up the Internet quite nicely. [emoji6]
