The retro nurse's outfit has returned

I'd wear it. Because my hubby would think that it was totally *hot*.

huhsmileyf3.gif Oh that's just sick...keep it in your bedroom.

I also think they look silly and like costumes. I don't think I could take someone serious in those outfits.

"Oh that's just sick...keep it in your bedroom."

I don't see anything "sick" about her comment, but I do agree that traditional nursing outfits belong in the bedroom, not on the floor.

Seriously, though, I'd quit before I'd go along with this. It's problematic on so many levels.

I just never thought that the uniforms would go back like they used to be, and I was stunned when I saw this article.

Because apparently my grades, years of hard work, and license just don't communicate what an outdated white dress can, according to so many of the comments on following the article.

Well put! Seriously? For patient satisfaction? As a patient going into a hospital, I'd be a lot more concerned about nosocomial infection, the procedure going well, being kept clean and reasonably comfortable than what my nurse was wearing... The dress whites are just too associated with the "naughty nurse" stereotype now for me to ever feel comfortable (mentally) wearing them to work. And I would dang sure not be comfortable physically trying to do my job in stockings!:uhoh3:

Oh, lighten up.

If patients can't respect nurses in scrubs, will they respect nurses in a skirt, white top and cap on? Like I said, I don't mind white. But I'm a student, and I'm required to wear white. And if I continue to wear white as an RN, I'll be mistaken for a student.

OMG, I would look HIDEOUS and matronly in those caps . . .

I would look like the pillsbury dough girl in white hose and a dress ...

Please GOD, don't make me wear something like that. I could not do my job. I would have to leave. Or, I guess I'd have to lose some serious weight!!

I've seen hospitals where nurses where white tops and blue pants -- and the techs wear all dark blue. It worked -- everyone knew who the nurses were. We don't have to go to this extreme ...

You know, other than agreeing that half the staff would look like Media stars and the other half horrendous, I wouldn't mind wearing it. Practical...no, but half the things I'm required to do aren't the epitome of practical. Patient satisfaction is HUGE where I work and I know they'd love this. But it concerns me that our patients dont seem to know who their nurses are. My patients have always known I'm their nurse (except for two occasions), this may be in part because I announce it at the begining of the shift, write it on their white board and then again every time I enter their room if they are confused. I also announce it entering anyone else's patients room "Hi my name is LouisVRN I am a nurse, your nurse _____ is attending to another patient so I will be _____." The two times I have been confused one was as a kangaroo and the other as the devil . I don't think a white dress and hat would have helped in either situation.

I wore full whites yesterday, including a cap, and my residents loved it. And men opened doors for me.

I liked it.

Nothing can be done about patients with dementia. I would prefer to be mistaken as a kangaroo though. Heck, with all the things I carry in my pockets, I might as well be a kangaroo.

Please no... I've already got to stash away all my nice scrub outfits and replace them with all navy blue starting in July. Hopefully our DON doesn't see this story, or we'll go all white, next.

But, I wouldn't mind having a nice dark blue cape to wear to and from work... do you suppose I could find someone to stitch on a big red cross?
