That is the problem, "you worked you a** off". Open your eyes dear, no one cares how hard you work. What I want to convey is that smart work, ( and appearance) should be paramount to nurses. Again, I find myself in partial agreement. Working smart and looking smart matter. But my patients definitely notice how hard I work. Nursing, to me, is very much an applied science. And the nurses I've known who started in the days when white dresses were the norm never did spend a lot of time doing their nails.
I worked as a medic a couple years ago at a hospital in Saudi Arabia. The medics were part of the nursing department, and medics and nurses wore a heavy-duty white scrub that could be pressed (and the hospital laundry would press them for you). They looked very sharp, but were still very comfy. I'm cool with white, but like the scrubs, ergo, white scrubs!

First of all, don't call me "dear." You don't know me, and that's as bad as nurses calling their patients "honey." It's condescending and offensive.
Second, working ones a** off and working smart are not mutually exclusive, and implying that you have the corner on working smart is also condescending. There are plenty of days in the ED when my fellow nurses and I have to work as smart as we can just to be ABLE to work our a**s off, because it's that busy and/or we are working short. And if you or anyone else tries to tell me that you NEVER work your a** off because you work so smart, then you are either lying or you are one of those nurses who leaves part of their work for the next shift!
Finally, you care what I think about your 2 cents because you bothered to reply to my post.
