The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

It is my understanding the online banking portion will be the next step in the application process. I went off the checklist which didn't say anything about banking information.

Thanks azb91! I read that as well.

Oh my goodness I am so terribly nervous about this. My wife and I are having our third baby - we need the $$!!!!! Everyone promise to post something AS SOON AS ANYONE HEARS ANYTHING! Bring on the stress ulcers!

Hey guys - now that the application is closed, when I log back into the NSP login thing and click on "supplemental materials" it says that "no further materials are needed at this time." Is this just because the application closed, or because they changed the criteria or something? I am in the first funding category (EFC = 0 and full-time undergrad). Does everyone else's say the same thing?

No...for me it still gives the same list. Hope that doesn't mean they didn't get my packet! I sent it certified and checked yesterday to see if it had been delivered. It arrived like May 3 and someone signed for it!

I had my academic evaluator mail the letter to me and then I included it in the packet. I also included the non-academic eval in my packet but she just did it at my house...theres no postmark on it! The school mailed in the verification directly...I am soooo worried that I will be denied based on their errors! (I posted earlier about how they put the wrong graduation date and the call center basically said there was nothing I could do to fix it).

I know I'm so worried too about stupid errors like that. I should have just bought a damn plane ticket and hand delivered the entire thing myself. Ugh. I guess I'll call them, even though the instructions say don't call, lol. I'm desperate!

Hey everyone new to the site I just stared school Aug 26th. I applied for this scholarship as well. I'm so nervous, I need the help so bad. I'm terrified that I did something wrong and my app will be rejected. I shouldn't worry so much because my studies is enough to worry about.

They make it sound like any errors and you are out! It would be awful to be completely qualified and not get it because of a small mistake. Unfortunately, my hopes are kind of high about it, based on how many eligible applicants they had last year and how many awards they project to award this year! I am hoping they will be able to give one at least to everyone in the first funding preference....crossing fingers.

I hope they don't check out this forum and match me to the packet (paranoid much?) but when I have called, they don't really seem to know much. I waited for 50 minutes to talk to someone for my first call and they kept having to put me on hold because they didn't know how to answer all of my questions. And other people have already mentioned how they give contradictory answers! So frustrating! This scholarship would be an absolute lifesaver for so many people, myself included...I wish someone would brief the call takers more completely and uniformly. Okay......done ranting!

I agree that it does seem like one little error can throw us out of the running. I originally filled out my verification of good standing sheet with my school advisor, and I called the schoalrship hotline to ask if that was ok...and it wasnt. They said the whole sheet could only be filled out by the school respresentative. So I printed out a new form and went back to her to fill it out, she didnt seem to happy about it, but she did it anyway. This is such a great scholarship, and with my school being 10,000 a semester this schoalrship would be oh so helpful...

Well that isn't good. I just printed my info in it and had a representative from school sign it and put his email address. I did that because it was in the format of filling in the blanks. How do they know the representative didn't feel it out?? Oh well, if I don't get it because of that then oh well. They should have more specific instructions on their website then.

mllnjll- When me and my advisor filled it out together I filled out the first half with my handwriting and she filled out the bottom half so you could see the obvious difference in the handwriting..I was thinkling about doing what you did and just typing it out and having the school advisor sign it, I'm sure thats fine. Didn't mean to scare you..

I am in California and my nursing school is in Kentucky. I coordinated them sending the form in on my behalf through email. They sent me a copy of what they said they mailed and that's when I found the error.

Do you guys think that me being in an accelerated program and having out-of-state tuition will hurt? I do....! It's not too terribly bad out of state though...like 6.5k a semester

I don't think so. I spoke with the admissions coordinator from my school (which is an exquisitely expensive private school) and she said they have had awardees in the past. If they're awarding based on tuition, nobody from my school would have ever gotten this award.
