The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I called my financial aid office to ask about the COA and they told me the stipend would count against it. Furthermore they said that if the amount given went over my COA I would not be eligible to keep any federal loans. I did find out though that there are ways to increase your COA, such as adding on daycare prices, which for me were a biggie...

This is what I'm afraid of. You don't have an income, the contribution amount in FAFSA is at zero. I guess the saving grace to the situation will be our tax returns will not be for a hole years worth of stipends. This Jan. will be the last FAFSA I will be completing. I need the additional Stafford loans to get through as unemployed. Now I am wondering just how much this will cost us in additional funding. Is'nt there like some threshold where any money made upto a particular amount is considered low treshold and not counted and any amount above and beyond then counted and taxed. Will need to look into it further. Thanks for the heads up. :redbeathe

There is a threshold. I have 5 children. So, my threshold is much higher. Although, I don't know what it is. It seemed high when I saw the chart. It showed what income you could make and still have a zero for a contribution. It was based on number of dependence, etc. BUT, you are still taxed on the full amount.

I guess, based on Akesa's phone call, that the stipend is counted like work study. Counts as income for next years fasfa and is part of our COA.... does seem like a double whammy...

Does anyone know if the stipend will post into our accounts this week? They keep saying the 7th but that is a Sunday... So I was hoping to get it sometime during the week.. What is the web address for the facebook page?

Nov. 2nd, still no money

so I called the general number and actually didn't get put on hold (a first!)...anyhow, for those who have CF, your analyst is now arthur williams...I got to speak with him and asked about enrollment verification and he said that he just got the email from CF that said they needed to be sent out so he will start sending those this afternoon... I also asked about the stipend payments and he explained the process..they send all the names/info in at once to the processing center, which was sent off last week, and because this year they have more people receiving the award than in th...e past the processing is taking time to get finished...they are still sticking with the November 7th date as they haven't heard otherwise but he couldn't tell me really anything more specific as he said he hasn't really heard any more than that. He also said heads up for next year around this time that the stipends/orc for those who signed a second year contract, to expect those to come later than this year...so for november 2011 to come more towards the middle/end of the month because they expect to give out even more awards next year...yeah its a year away, but hey still nice to know!

Anyone heard anything new about our deposits?

11/5/10 - Still no deposit. The 7th is on Sunday. So much for the "dead line." The welcome packet says not to call about it till the 14th...

The is abolutely ridiculous...I will be phoning first thing and all day Monday until I get some answers!
