The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I also got the email today! I was at school and was checking my email on my Ipod and was honestly not even thinking I would be getting anything from HRSA, and there it was. I was crying and all my classmates were wondering what the heck was going on! LOL Anyway, I am so relieved I can't believe it. Congrats to the others who also received the scholarship.

To those of you that didn't get it, I am SO sorry. My heart goes out to you.

Well I sure do know about Peay...my A&P professor is an alumnus and I know of at least one student from here that attends there. That's a pretty big school. Jackson State is (i think) the largest junior college in the state, but since there are no living quarters, nearly all of its students would be from West TN.

My professor said that when he went to Austin Peay, they made signs at the football games that said "Show your Peay-ness"....heehee :lol2:

It is a nive size school. I like it. Yes they use to have shirts and everything, BUT one of the old student presidents decided to take ownership of that saying and got a patent on it... So, not more...

Oh to add, I have CL, got all the emails and a phone call confirming tuition, and had a credit check and I have bad credit. I got my email at 10:27am eastern time.

Specializes in non-animals.

Did anyone else not receive the award AND ALSO got their credit checked?

responding to the earlier post: just an old hospital bill on my credit report...nothing to do with the government

Yes, I had a credit check and just got my rejection letter. I know it wasn't my credit that stopped me because she was calling my school until a couple of weeks ago verifying everything. I don't think we will ever know why it didn't happen for some of us. Congrats to everyone that got it! I think this might be a sign that I should just jump right into grad school instead of having to work before :)

I did not receive an e-mail today and I did get my credit checked. I do have good credit.

joe n635dc,

sorry to hear you didn't get the award!i know it's hard sometimes, but i always try to look at the brightside of things. i think everyone on this board knows how difficult it is for new nurses to get any kind of job right now, let alone a full time job. people post on here that it takes 9 months to even get an interview. hospitals in many areas are in hiring freezes. it will hopefully get better soon, but it may get way worse before it gets better. that being said, hrsa is great to pay for 500 people to go to school, but at the same time they are pumping out 500 new nurses with a proce tag over there heads. 2 years of full time service and if you can't get a job in the alotted timeframe you have to start paying all that money back. it is more money then it would be with loans plus you have only 3 years to pay instead of the longer time you have for loans. since you didnt get the award look at it like you can take your time to get the job you want, or maybe the only one thats available when the time comes, be it part time or home care or in a private hospital. then once you get a job you love and works for you, you can then apply for the loan repayment program they offer. i don't know if this helps you at all, but i hope it does! good luck in anything you do!

what do you mean by price tag over their head?

I was lucky enough to receive the award!!! I received all emails and a phone call. I have 2 years of technical college left to get my RN. My horrible credit did NOT stop me!
