The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

For next years applicants. I received all e-mails, had credit checked, and no phone calls.

Same here. Had KH as an analyst, received all emails, had credit checked, and zero contact since the July emails other than the award email today.

Hi, so I have not heard one way or another yet today and got spooked that people with my analyst were getting emails and not me so I called. I called VJ and he was very to the point and said that if we do not get an email today than we should just reapply next year since we are not getting it. I really really really hope he is wrong or but I don't think he was. :crying2:

***** no nsp for me ********

hey all,

here is the scoop. i got all the e-mails but did not have a credit check. i am from pa and had cl as my contact. i just got off the phone with her, very nice and quite civil considering all the calls she must be getting daily. she informed me when i inquired that "unfortunately you have not been selected to receive the scholarship". it only took her a minute to look up my application. further when i asked if she knew how applicants were evaluated she said that "she was not part of the selection process". apparently that is done by someone else or some other group of people. in any case, when i asked if it was still possible that one could be awarded as an alternate she responded that there is a very very slim chance that someone could decline the award but that she was not sure where i was in the alternate ranking. she told me that "you will be receiving a letter by mail", which confirms the fact that those who were not selected get a letter by mail instead.

i get the vibe from all this that almost no scholarships are declined, so if you didn't get it you can just about forget about it. also, i also got the vibe that all of the e-mails that would be going out, already have, though she admitted that she was not sure of that fact.

well i suppose that someone had to get the shaft. i just never thought it would be me seeing as i was in the first group but oh well. to those that got it, congratulations, you people are damn lucky, enjoy the paycheck. to those that didn't, it is going to be another year of hell trying to figure out how to pay for tuition and books, welcome to the "poor club". on the flipside, maybe we are the lucky ones, we can work wherever we want or go right to school for advanced practice / med school.

to the other joe and anyone else: if you’re in the same boat as me and did not get a credit check or an e-mail by now saying something to the tune of "congratulations, were going to pay you and your tuition", it doesn’t look good. start making other plans.

I also wanted to add a few other things. Someone said earlier that they made 22 k with an EFC of 0 last year and believed that is they did not get chosen. I made around 19000 last year, but still had an EFC of 0 so I am not sure as to how they choose the recipients. But if your EFC is 0 no matter how much you make, you should still apply.

I got an email!

I got it!

I got it!!!

Congrats to all who received the scholarship!

I don't think I got it and I had everything done....initial emails, VJ calling me, credit checks, contracts, etc, but have yet to receive anything in the email. I'm gonna shoot MC an email just to see if it may have gotten mixed up somewhere...congrats to all again!

I don't think hrsa would know what your income is...just that you have the efc of 0...I don't remember what's on the sat report but either way I doubt that income had anything to do with it...just that you had the 0 efc made you first pref...it sounds like we wi never really know how the final decision was made....congrats to all that got it and condolences to those who did not.

Congrats! Has anyone gotten an e-mail from analyst CF? Let me know please. Thanks. No word for me yet!

Your income is included on the SAR. I just saw that someone had that question at the beginning of the post and wanted to clarify in case someone read it and decided not to apply because of it.
