The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

Hate to be the first downer but I DID NOT get the scholarship.

I have CL. I received ALL the emails, even had a back and forth with JV, faxed back my contract and bank info, etc., but never had a credit check (I did freecreditreport.com and privacy alert for monitoring) and I received a 'snail mail' letter today saying "We regret to inform you that this year you have not been selected for further consideration."

It also says there were over 6400 applications for LESS THAN 500 new awards.

By the way I go to a very inexpensive school, about 2k a semester, so the stipend would've been their biggest expense for me.

I have a 15 month old, am a single Mom, 3.9 GPA, just starting nursing school, although I spent the last year taking classes online while waiting for the program to start, and I have attended college before, but about 15 years ago. I live and go to school in PA, and I receive TANF, Food Stamps, Medicaid, etc. Not sure if they know that, just acknowledging the need ;-{

I am generally quite good at essays, and hoped my recs were good, but can't say as I didn't read them ...

Just trying to give as much info as possible to anyone else trying to play the guessing game. (Oh yeah, on that note, on my original email to say I was being sent forward for final review, I couldn't see how many other people had my analyst, but on the one from Arthur W, there were 180 people on the list, including mllnj, who got it. Mll was 178th on my email, I was 107th. SO nothing to go on there, except that it was pretty clear one analyst wasn't going to be giving out 180 scholarships...)

I've tried to go through and kudo everyone, congrats to you all.

Oh, by the way, I ONLY received snail mail today, no email.

WHAT! Over 6400 applicants for 500 scholarships!???!! Those are only 7% odds! Wow, those of you who did receive the scholarship should be praising the Lord for His favor! I am very sorry gypsy; my prayers will be with you and your child. Keep hope alive for next year!! God Bless this semester

Thank you! I'm assuming my odds were a bit better since I made it through to the final round. That's the part that's so hard to accept. When I got that contract to mail back and submitted my banking info, even though I knew it wasn't definite, part of me certainly believed it was.

I was having my doubts around the credit check, but part of me never truly believed I'd be rejected. I think I'm still in denial right now.

But thank you, and congrats !

I give God the most highest praise!! Congrats to all of us and to those that didnt get it dont worry, its Gods plan!!!

I just realized thanks to berryb, that the chances of my getting this scholarship were almost exactly what they were to get into my school, there were over 1200 applicants to my school, and they let in 140 of us. Guess that's why I had my hopes up. LOL.

As much as it sucks to not get it, it was nice of them to go ahead and inform me, how much worse to have never heard anything ...

And hey, we're making it, it just would've been nice to move out of the one room we're sharing. So jealous of all you winners, now I'm gonna stop stalking this board for 5 minutes and do some real life stuff LOL

Totally having a crap day!! Can't stand closed minded hypocritical people!!! I hate living in the South sometimes ahhhhhhh!!! Sorry for the rant :). Just got home from class and sat down to check my email and HOLY CRAP I got the scholarship!!!!!!!!!!!!! I screamed so loud my dog howled at me:D CONGRATULATIONS to all who have received it so far and so so very sorry to those who haven't. Its hard to celebrate knowing not everyone on here who should have received it didn't.

Congratulations to everyone who got it, and try again for those who didn't!!

I was luck enough to get it, and I am sooo greatful. Thanks to everyone on this board!

Hey Gypsy,

I am sorry that you did not receive the scholarship. I am in PA and in the same exact situation as you, so I feel your need for this scholarship. I was just wondering, what school are you going to? It sounds like we may be going to the same...
