The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

Did you call the call center?

Well... I called HRSA and it certainly didn't make me feel any better. It seems that CL "has never updated anything about you on the list".

What does that mean?? Not like I can really find out since she's on vacation. I genuinely am okay with whatever happens... it just really stinks that our car breaks down right as I'm finding this out! And that there is no way to determine if this means that I have fallen through the cracks while my analyst is on vacation.... or if I am not supposed to be updated. If I am an alternate, that's fine... but if my file was supposed to be updated than it makes it sad....

Oh that's just fantastic! How reassuring! I wonder if that's the deal for most of us on her list. Now I feel so much better that I have her as my analyst! It's bad enough we have to make sure everything is absolutely perfect on our application to be considered but now were are finding out more and more that we have to make sure they are doing their jobs right to maintain our candidacy for this scholarship.

We are all nervous and neurotic enough as it is before we find out that we might not even get it due to someone else potentially screwing it up for us. They get hundreds of calls from us each day I am sure due to everyone's uncertainty, if they would just get their **** straight maybe we wouldn't have to worry about it so much. How hard can getting a straight answer be, no, instead they have to jerk us off and make random **** up just to get us off the phone.

at this point I am inclined to state that anyone who gets this scholarship (as well as those that don't) have earned it even prior to fulfilling your service obligation.

I hate government

End Rant!

i emailed my analyst (cf) on august 12th because i had a missed phone call..the number came up as unknown and the voicemail message was cut off before i could find out who it was calling..i wasn't sure if it was hrsa calling or if it was from a different scholarship that i applied for through my school, either way i thought i would check to be sure.

she emailed me back just a few minutes ago and said

fyi – the nsp awardees notification will be sent via email on august 23, 2010.

i hope the caps of the fyi doesn't mean she was annoyed...i didn't ask in the email what the status was of my application, i just simply said i had a missed phone call and the message started by a guy saying he was calling to get information for my recent scholarship application but then it got cut off. either way, if its true that it will be sent via email by the 23rd then that means just waiting till next monday...i'm gonna die waiting, and even then if i don't receive an email next monday i'm gonna be super worried...its too much suspense!!

I'm kind of confused as to how "never updated any information on the list" automatically means she may have screwed up. What if the person's an alternate? What if there's no processing and updating to be done right now? Maybe she hasn't updated any information because... there's nothing to be updated right now?

From what I understand from the conversation I had this morning... she hasn't updated anything at all. No notations that docs had been received or anything. Who knows what's going on.... but I can most def understand Joe's frustration! :)

It sounds like the person who said it was never updated, sounded surprised to that effect the way I read it, which is what lead me to the thought about dropping the ball. Otherwise why would they have said your info was never updated if that is the case for everyone?

It sounds like the HRSA reps thought pattern was noticing that this persons file was not updated (where having an updated file would be the norm) and stated the same. All in all, I would say that this entire process is not confidence inspiring even in the least.

Nonetheless, I guess all we can do is wait. When we submitted to the government for funding we should have expected such a poorly managed system. Funny though how FAFSA has it together and never has problems getting money out, but HRSA is so discombobulated.

"Discombobulated"-LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!:D

I am kinda with others in that I don't see how not updating others automatically means hrsa dropped the ball. As someone said in an earlier post, the emails that went out asking for information specifically stated not to contact hrsa asking for updates on our application and they would contact us if needed. If not for this message board, really no one would know what was going on and we would all have to wait patiently for the email/regular mail giving us the answer if we got the scholarship or not. There has to be quite a few people who don't read this message board who probably received the email, replied with the required information, and now are just waiting to hear an answer. Yes it is killing us all to wait. Yes we all can use the scholarship. But at this point, no one really knows who is a finalist/alternate, and no one really knows how long the credit checks take to show up/get processed, and well unfortunately thats kinda how it is with scholarships like these. We're lucky in that those who have called have been able to get any information at all, especially those who have received information on application status/what the process is on selecting those to receive the award. It could be a completely different situation in which we are all in the dark completely..but we aren't.

This isn't meant to sound like a mean message or try to offend anyone. Its just me putting my thoughts in about waiting to hear the decision without everyone freaking out and getting to overly worried about everything. I would like to think each one of us is getting the scholarship, but also have the mindset that I'm not getting the scholarship so I don't get too overly excited or too disappointed.

Hard to have confidence in a system that is overly mysterious, deceitful and proves on a daily basis how truly disorganized it really is; but I digress.

I mean honestly, how can the people on the phones not know that they are completely full of **** with some of the answers they give. In a handful of circumstances one could claim ignorance but seriously, think about the breadth of disinformation that comes out of that call center.

I just got that same email.. FYI – The NSP awardees notification will be sent via email on August 23, 2010. I had sent her an email a few days ago with a small question. This is what she sent. Yes it was Connie F

Well I like that it's email rather than snail mail...well now we can compulsively check our emails on the 23rd. Good luck to everyone!

I thought it was being sent via mail. Gosh, they keep changing it! I guess that saves them postage although i'm sure they could send things for FREE since it is the government.
