The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I too have CL and have not had my credit checked. Not taking that as a good sign. I didn't know she was going to be gone that long! That's the worst news I've heard in a long while.... :(

It is very frustrating when you know for a fact that someone dropped the ball on their side and is affecting your chances of getting the award.

How do you know CL dropped the ball? CL has people who had their credit pulled, so she's obviously been doing something. There have been multiple dates where people who had CL as an analyst had their credit pulled. I think there was one other person with JJ3, did their credit get pulled? Also, do we any of us really know if in fact the analysts are pulling the credits? Could it be someone else different completely?

I just can't figure that HRSA would actually give someone 2 weeks off right in the middle of a critical time. Perhaps she is "out of the office" but still working somewhere else. Who knows.

I said "someone dropped the ball". I did not say that she specifically did. In fact, she did not get my file according to a very credible source in that office.

Oklahomacole-

Do you happen to know the answer to this by any chance? I am in an ADN program currently. I graduate in May 2011. If I were to get this scholarship and immediately enroll into an RN-BSN program for Aug 2011, could I then renew for another year or two, or would I have to completely reapply for the scholarship?

Hey so I had that same question...if you go to the main page for the scholarship and click on FAQS it is on there. And according to the website it says that those who are in RN to BSN programs can't apply...so I would take that as we wouldn't be able to extend our scholarship :-( which stinks...But we can after our 2 years apply for the loan reimbursement program...not as good, but it's better then nothing

I am using triple alert through Experian. They monitor all three bureaus.

Hmmm.....Do you have any free reports you can pull just to double check?

lol i dont even look at my emails anymore....im pretty sure that i didnt get it....i havent heard anything from them at all...my school is about 16k a year and they told me no one from that school has ever got that award...They never even heard of it.

No, I used my free pull earlier this year, unfortunately. I'm not sure how people are checking it again for free... I looked on experian and couldn't figure it out...

But I did get an inquiry update today that SBC long distance had pulled my credit.... which of course is incredibly strange and I'll be talking to them about that tomorrow, but at least I know it's working.

Did you just recently sign up for the monitoring service, or did you belong to it for a while?

You can try this- go here:

FreeCreditReport.com | Credit Report and Credit Score Online by Experian

You can choose either to become part of their service and get your credit report and score, or you can pull just your credit report for free. Just make sure you click on "No thanks" or whatever it says when it asks you to add your credit score and join the service.

The other way for free reports is because of the FCRA (fair credit reporting act).

Other Free Credit Report Opportunities - Equifax Credit Bureau - Free Credit Check

It tells you the reasons you might be able to get a free report. If you qualify, go here: http://www.equifax.com/fcra/ and then fill out the info. It won't ask for a credit card. It's fairly simple, and as someone else said on here, they "cheat" and do it.

Identity guard had a free 30 day trial that i used to see if i get a credit check. Very easy to cancel
