The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

Why does this have to be so gut-wrenchingly stressful and complicated! lol I too would like to know if applicants in previous years were required to acquire letters of rec and write essays? Why do they ask for that if it's basically a lottery (as long as you have an EFC of 0)? And why would they need your GPA if that is not accounted for? I am interested to know how much the application process has changed this year. I found out about this scholarship relatively last minute! I finished collecting documents and shipped on the last day!

This wait is killing me...Gosh. So I called the call center today and was told that if you were selected as a recipient than you would be notified no later than September 30!! There is no way of confirming that they received any of your supplement material as well. BOOOO. Just thought I'd share this with everyone.

I'm am going to a private bsn program about 35 mins from Baltimore in PA. It is an expensive school and I am a single mother of a 3 yr old. This scholarship would be more than heaven sent if i got it!!!! I pray every day.

last year when someone got locked out of their account, they got an email shortly after saying they got the scholarship. Be aware they contact you by email and check your spam, there is a time limit for responding, i think something like 24 or 48 hours. It will say in the email as well as give directions on how to respond (I think it was by fax last year).

Last year they did not require the essays. IMHO they are requiring them this year because there are so many more scholarships to give out than in years past and probably thought more people would apply so would need a way to weed out applicants. But thats just MHO.

I also read somewhere we would be notified prior to July 31 but only IF we get the scholarship. Sept 30 if you have been denied. Last year i was notified in October that I was denied :( So hard to wait and hope that long! Keeping my fingers crossed......

Hey guys just wanted to let you know I called the call center today--and while I was having something changed I asked when emails were going to be sent out--he told me that he didnt know exact dates because they don't tell them, but that he thought it was going to be soon like end of the month but no later then aug...so i dont know...just thought id let you know

They allowed you to change something? I am going to call today because our nursing director retired and she is the school contact person on my forms. Hoping they let me change it! Thanks for the update!

I changed my email. The email I had was through the school and the school is changing servers so I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything. And get this now my school email is working...oh well it will just go to my personal email...

I think it says when you log in to your account on the HRSA page that applicants who are accepted will be notified between July 1 and September 30. Here's to hoping we can all be accepted :)

Yeah that would be great!!!

Hey guys! I also I applied for the HRSA scholarship. I just wanted to join the message board to see what other complications people have faced. This waiting is killing me. I read on last years forum that people didn't find out if they got it until the end of September. Does anybody have any updates?
