The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

oh yea...quick question:idea:.... since i signed a contract for two years does that mean i would have to do FOUR years of service?

I am pretty sure the contract states that for every year of aid you receive, you owe them a year of service with a minimum of two years of service. So if you either get 1 or 2 years of aid, you have a commitment of 2 years of service.

I have the scholarship for two years - but when I received notice they said the school year would run from July 09 through July 10. I received stipends for every month - whether December was only 5 school days, or, we don't even start school until mid August, or even if I didn't take summer class' - they still paid every month. Your first payment will catch you up from July 2010.

I think seeing I graduate in early May -- that mine will probably cut off that month however.

hey guys... I have CL and saw that my credit was checked. I spoke to CL yesterday (FINALLY!):yeah:. I asked her when will we be notified if we received the award. She said "well we're trying to input that information now so hopefully by the end of this month you will know". I replied with a thank you and she said "mmmhmmm" & hung up. i sensed attitude but idk. :p

Holy cow! How in the heck did you get her to answer the phone....I have called and sent emails and gotten nothing...

Glad to hear that they are trying to input the info now...makes me feel better that you talked to her and she is a real person...not someone in LaLa Land...

Thanks! You are officially my hero! :yeah:

I AM TOTALLY CONFUSED!!

I just called a lady who was very nice on the phone and she said that my analyst is CL which took me by surprised because I have been talking and receiving emails from JJ3rd. I told her this and she said to hold on that she was going to ask JJ3rd for my file. She apparently spoke to him and she said that he will be sending me an email later today. I just wanted to know about my credit check and THIS IS WHAT I FOUND OUT! Anyway, he responded with this email;

"Hello Mr. #@$,

I just want you to know that I received your e-mail, and if you are selected as a recipient of the scholarship all of the questions you have asked will be answered. The program will be notifying all applicants starting August 24th 2010. Thank you."

This does not sound like good news to me, since the lady on the phone told me that recipients who are eligible will have their credits pulled. The thing is that if in fact CL is my analyst SHE DOES NOT HAVE MY FILE, so how the hell is she going to pull my credit, and why did JJ3rd did not mention anything about this in his email???? What the heck is going on???

Even if you had to pay for one month of membership to one of those stupid credit monitoring places (which I can't stand)...it might be worth it...$14.95 for peace of mind. Or (like it did for me) could cause me to just keep logging in to one more place to check on things....:)

You can go to AnnualCreditReport and get your free credit report...it truly is free...it is a bit of a pain but hey...it's free. I know they say you can only do this once a year but honestly...I know people that do it every 3 months and it works...only thing is you have to go to each bureau through this website one by one...start by checking Experian first...that's the one they checked on mine...hope it helps you...:D

She checked your credit today? Hmmm. Too bad I don't have a free credit report to use. I know I can do one of those credit monitoring things, but they are so hard to cancel.

Go here...it should work...and it really is FREE...no catches...AnnualCreditReport

You're entitled to it once every year but seen those that use it more than once a year...

I thought it said we had to be in class for 15 days out of the month...won't they come back and try to get their money back? Have they not ever asked anything about the dates you attend(ed)? I would totally love for it to be from July to October but just a bit worried about getting something I'm not supposed to get...

The way I read the 15 days was that you wouldn't receive any type of payment until you had been in school for 15 days. So maybe the person above who has the scholarship is right...You get it from July of this year until July of next year...Just my thought

Okay...so I did the $1 Experian thing (7 day trial...after that is $14.95) and its showing that a federal government CBC/DHHS/BPHC checked it today (8/11). Now I need to figure out how to cancel it....

My analyst is either KH or MC (I got the initial email from both)

750 preapproved people will get 500 scholarships . . . you have to remember how many people will not have passed last semester, how many have decided against nursing, change of plans, etc. I bet you all get it.

I just went back and read it again...so basically I read that it says that if we have spent at least 15 days in class out of the Fall term we will get the stipend each month...

"The first stipend payment is issued in October and includes a lump sum payment for all months of the Fall term (July through October) in which the student has spent 15 days or more attending classes in the scholarship-supported nursing program."

Either way...I like that she has gotten it each month...with out breaks...that will surely help greatly!

Yes it will!!! I would love to get it for every month especially since they would only pay 1 year of tuition for me. I graduate at the end of April.
