The Guys Club: Guy Students Come on In!

Published

Hi All!

I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.

I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.

When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.

So I want to know are there any men out there?

Did I already post on this thread?

2 weeks into the program at the Pres. School of Nursing down here in Charlotte, NC. Odd to be one of 5 guys in a class of 50. Even more odd hearing everything refered to as "her."

HEY GUYS! I am trying to get into the CNA training where I live, and I am not a good writer. I have to write an essay on why I want to be a male nurse. I don't know where to start and I really want to get into this program. Any advice? :rotfl:

Anytime I find myself struggling to write, I always do a topic map and that helps me. Here are some strategies for you:

1. identify the central theme of what you want to write about .... place that in the middle of your paper

Why I want to be a Nurse?

2. next, place things about being a nurse that you value around the central theme.

3. next list your feelinga about nursing in general and how you can make a difference to the profession.

4. finally, identify your overall plans to achieve your goal to become a nurse and where in nursing you would like to work and why.

5. now you should have enough information to put together a reasonable essay on why you want to be a nurse.

Good luck.

Is your assignment "why I want to be a male nurse"??? How odd. I would write about how you want to care for both males and females.

Hello fellas.... where can a guy find regular, white, nursing shoes? Last semester I wore these hideous worn out all white adidas sneakers. Clinicals resume Feb 4th and want to avoid wearing those smelly eyesores. We aren't allowed clogs and would like military low quarters but white like those issued to Navy folk. I personally never saw white low quarters being a field medic. Did many searches on the web and the results I got were as if I was asking for instructions on making weapons grade anthrax. Train to Save!

This is my first post.

I am a nursing student in my first semester in a Louisiana College called Southern University @ Shreveport. This is the schools first nursing degree path so I dont know if it will be good or not but I work hard and try to learn more than I need to, so if the school doesn't adequately prepare me, I hope my learning habits will compensate.

So far, it's going well. I tend to score in the top 5% of the class on our tests and so forth. I am looking forward to moving past all this preliminary stuff and getting into clinicals (does that make me a masochist?). I come here to read about experiences because there are no upper-level students at our school since this is a brand-new program.

I chose to become a nurse because the health related fields are the only worthwhile fields in town. I have a degree in computer animation but it is worthless here, I would move to use it, but I want my parents to be able to see my kids grow up (of which I have three - ages 6 yrs.,3 yrs., and 8 mos.).

I am the only male so far, so I am a little isolated, that is why I am posting here.

Just got my license in the mail and wanted to say hello to the guys

Chris

Sorry guys, I'm a curious female... I had guys in my class and at times when we were reading our nursing books, etc. I think I felt more angry than they did about how stereotypical things are :angryfire ! I remember one clinical my male friend was asked to leave his work to help lift a patient while all the females were standing around... I am so happy to hear of more males in nursing because it's about time! Keep fighting for equal rights! I'm sorry it's 2005 and we still treat males in nursing like it's 1920.

Starting my nursing degree in Sep. here in Canada. In the meanwhile im taking a few first year options at a different college. However I heard there are about 15 male students out of about 137 @ U of C. Thats pretty small %. Good luck all of ya.

Hi Tjusnjon,

I am a 38 y/o asn student at CalU in california pa. I think in our class there is four guys. the sad thing is most since there is so few of us. We dont end up on the same clinical or lab days. It makes it difficult to get to know them. Good Luck in your classes and welcome to the club
