Hi All!
I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.
I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.
When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.
So I want to know are there any men out there?
HI, this website is cool, lots of info, I am also a male nurse in my college, doing a AA RN program in California, of course there are only 3 guys in my class, but that's okay. We have been doing a good job I guess. Does anyone know about hospitals helping nursing students? financing their studies, etc... for a contract in the future.
thanks a lot okay, and merry christmas to all of you.
take care

Another male student in a class of 130, just finished my semester in a three year program. Went in as a sophomore. It's okay, but often hard to get lab partners to work with, but some (females) are cool.
Hang in there. There is definitely a place for males in the nursing world. Don't let the females scare us away at all.

Here's another one...I'm starting the program at Florida State Univ. on the 25th. I have no idea how many other guys are in the program. Hoping I'm not the only one...
Take care all!
I also go to FSU and I'm applying for the Fall semester. I heard its really hard to get into. I have a 3.15 science GPA, but I have good letter of recs and a good essay so hopefully I'll get lucky and get in.

Another guy here. 24 weeks left (17 actual class time.) Moving from paramedic to a bsn degree. We are in a fast track program at Mountain State University in WV. 8 of us and 5 are guys.
I've met more than a few medics who've gone on to get their RN. One who I went to high school with is now in med school. :)
Hey guys... I'll be starting the Accelerated BSN curriculum at Johns Hopkins this coming June, 2005. I'm 48, and leaving the practice of law after 22 years. If anyone else will be in Baltimore this summer, give a shout out.
A 12 yr experience lawyer buddy of mine was starting pre-reqs for nursing, but after more than a year of searching landed a job from Honeywell, a company that previously laid him off.
I'm a 15 yr experienced electrical engineer starting an Accelerated BSN on Jan 5. The course load looks brutal.
Kabin, where will you be attending school? I think if you can handle a course in thermodynamics, you can handle pharmacology and pathophysiology.
It's too bad your friend didn't follow through with nursing. Law practice may pay well in some quarters, but the work really isn't anything more than the redistribution of wealth. I need something more fulfilling.

I just finished my semester in a class of 130 with only 6 male students. We were 7 at the beginning, but one dropped out. I am also in my late 40s and am enjoying the challenge. I finished the semester with a 2.8. Not too happy about the gpa, but I am still in the game for the next few semesters.
How are you liking it so far?
