Hi All!
I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.
I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.
When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.
So I want to know are there any men out there?
I'm glad to see someone around my age...I'm 53 and will be done in May will take the test for my RN. It was something I wanted to do many years ago, but because of raising a family, good job, ect. it was always on the back burner! I have no regrets with the change of career.
I'm a 57 year old father of an 18 year old son in college. I'm in an ADN as career change. Was an Army medic too many years ago!
I wonder how many former military medics/corpsman there are who go on for their RN. I was Army from 66 to 71. I was VERY hesitant about going back to school (would the old grey matter work as well?), but found that I did better on my prereqs than I had done back in the 60s. I guess maturity counts for something besides a 10% discount on the earlybird special:rotfl: I start my clinical rotations in January; can't wait! Good luck on your exam.I'm glad to see someone around my age...I'm 53 and will be done in May will take the test for my RN. Out of like 120 students in my program theres only 7 guys. I love it!. I am currently on a med/surg floor but im looking forward to OB next semester. All i can say to you other guys is if you wanna make your life a whole lot easier while in school buy a pda or pocket pc and update it w/ drug guides and any other programs you can fit. Its worth its weight in gold.
" One semesters tuition for Nursing school 5,000$, 10 books form the school bookstore 700$ , one set of scrubs 45.00$, breakfast and a coffee before clinical 8.75$, the smell of your first soap suds enema.....priceless.

All of my thanks for your service there, from an old vet. What branch are you in...I was an Army medic, who starts my ADN next month. All the best.Howard
Thanks all, US army oradance myself, I'm a sat tracking repairer so I get to be on the internet anywhere. Rolling down the street can pop on the internet via our neat little display. This is the furthest thing from nursing you could imagine. I have wanted to be a nurse since some of the experiances I have had, and it would help people more than fixing sat systems that target for bombs. I am so looking forward to getting to a settle down with my family and start school and do the best I can.
Again thanks all
Stephen
