How to deal with angry doctors
You must report this MD. No excuse for this behavior, and no reason to allow it to continue.

Switching careers to nursing. who has done it?
I also switched from management to nursing at the ripe young age of 56. I was an army medic decades ago. Now in my 2nd semester of nursing program after a year of prereqs. It's hard as hell but well worth it! Good luck!

Help-Transplant Team Info
For an independent study, I'm considering looking into the role of the nurse as a member of an organ transplant team. Any info., pointers to other sites, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks......Howard

What school do/did you go to?
I'm in the ADN program attending Montgomery College in Takoma Park, Maryland. Currently finishing up my 1st semester (finals in Physical Assessment and Fundamentals of Nursing and the semester's over!). I have been assigned mostly male patients, but enough female pt's. so it's not a problem. I do note that most of the male students are 2nd (or 3rd) career guys. Anyway, I'm loving it, even though I'm going crazy from it at the same time :chuckle .

Nursing admissions hard?
I just started the clinical nursing program at Montgomery College. Admission was almost solely based on GPA. I understand that the minimum GPA for this class was 3.7. Class size is 64 per semester; over 500 applied I'm told. Prereq's include Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2, Chem., Micro., Lifespan Dev. Psych. Just concentrate on getting the best grades you can in your prereqs. Good Luck!

help me buck the system, please! super-traditional pinning ceremony that nobody wants
First of all, no one is saying to deny a patient's spiritual needs. I would be happy to pray with a patient on request, respecting their desire but praying silently a prayer that I could use to acknowledge my beliefs. I also must say that I'm getting a little tired with other people telling me how I should just go along with another religion's ceremony; this is the height of intolerance. I would NEVER expect a non-sectarian (indeed, in this case, a governmental) school to have a Jewish-framed ceremony; this would be disrespectful of all those who are non-Jews. Or maybe the issue here is that Christianity is the religion of the majority, and therefore I should go along and not speak up because I may be the only non-Christian. If this is the case, then I think a reminder of the prohibition on governmental establishment of religion, any religion, would be in order. Rachel, please keep us informed of your progress. Howard

Dating Patients
Many years ago before I was married I did date a patient, but only after she had been d/c'd. We only dated once...no big deal. I did date several coworkers, and ended up marrying my ex-wife (who was in another dept. at the time we met). (BTW...we were married for 28 years before we split up). I would never have a relationship while they were still my pt.

help me buck the system, please! super-traditional pinning ceremony that nobody wants
I note that the Consultant failed to respond to the portion of the OP's note regarding the Christian overtones of the ceremony. Does her suggestion to "submit" to the "conservative message" the Program Director is trying to give include submitting to this too? I would be quite interested to hear her response on this point. help me buck the system, please! super-traditional pinning ceremony that nobody wants
I am in an ADN in a county cc, and after reading this thread I will be checking on where our ceremony will be and required wear (if any). I am also Jewish and would absolutely raise the church location issue with the administrators. I am not at all hesitant about attending other religion's services, and as a guest have been overjoyed to have been asked to observe many beautiful, deeply moving services from many different denominations. But this will be MY ceremony, and I would be offended if there were Christian overtones to the ceremony. Indeed, I would not want there to be Jewish overtones either. Unless the school is a religious one, religious overtones are simply out of place. I say this as a very observant fellow, who finds religion an integral part of my life.

Difference Between RNFA and Surg. PA?
Hi all. I've been reviewing some of the threads and find I have some confusion concerning the differences between these 2 professions. Outside of the fact that the RNFA seems to build on the circulating and scrub RN duties before going on for FA duties, what are the differences? I'm currently getting my RN, but previously worked in the military as an extended duty medic, and considered PA vs. RN programs. I do NOT want to start a big deal about quality here or turf battles, but am looking for some basic facts. Thanks to all. Howard

Starting Nursing Courses Next Month-Advice?
I want to thank everyone who has taken the time and effort to put their thoughts down for us. I'm 57 and this is career switch. I was very worried about how the old grey cells would work going back to school after so long, but up to now I've kept up a 4.0 So being one of the old guys, and being one of the few male guys, and the differences in nursing courses from my other courses should make for an interesting time.

The Spring '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club: A&P 2
I just got my grades for last semester and I aced A & P 1! I start nursing courses 1/24, and the nursing dept. discouraged us from taking A & P 2 during the 1st semester of nursing program. So I'll be taking 2 in the 1st summer session and micro in the 2nd summer session. What a summer:scrying: Good luck to all! Howard
