Hi All!
I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.
I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.
When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.
So I want to know are there any men out there?
Hi Tjusnjon,I am a 38 y/o asn student at CalU in california pa. I think in our class there is four guys. the sad thing is most since there is so few of us. We dont end up on the same clinical or lab days. It makes it difficult to get to know them. Good Luck in your classes and welcome to the club
Whats up. I am about to graduate in may how much do RNs start at in CA.
Sorry guys, I'm a curious female... I had guys in my class and at times when we were reading our nursing books, etc. I think I felt more angry than they did about how stereotypical things are :angryfire ! I remember one clinical my male friend was asked to leave his work to help lift a patient while all the females were standing around... I am so happy to hear of more males in nursing because it's about time! Keep fighting for equal rights! I'm sorry it's 2005 and we still treat males in nursing like it's 1920.
thats right :angryfire
35 year old, married father of 2 here. Will be making the transition from a career as a computer programmer/analyst to nursing. I've completed most of my prereqs and am now applying for admission to nursing school either in the Spring or Fall of 2004. Long term goal is hopefully the CRNA path, but that is a long way down the road. We'll have to see how things pan out. Good luck to you all.I would be interested in how many others were into computers prior to nursing. I took computer programming at U of Calgary fell in love with the field. Province offered me an unbelievable package to become a nurse. Nursed from 87 to 96 then was given the opportunity to get back into computers. Now I combine both nursing and computers.
I'm going to be applying at the end of this year to an Accelerated BSN in minnesota and I was wondering what type of grades you had and/or experience?

I was a Computer Science major at first, changed to teacher education, and then to Nursing...I changed from Computer Science because my Professors were less knowledgeable than me and because I learned that none of my computer classes would transfer, I would have to finish my degree at my community college and I might not be staying here for enough time to finish up. I will probably get back into Computer Science once I get moved and after I get my RN degree.

Hobbes, we musta been separated at birth. Listen to this: I'm a 34-year old married guy, a 4-year old, another due in June. I have been in the IT/Computer field for the last 13 years and was pretty unsatisfied and bored with it and wanted a new challenge. I have been going to school part-time the last 2 years and will complete my last "pre-req" class this summer. I was recently accepted to an ASN program that starts in August. My long-term goal is ALSO to be a CRNA, which of course is gonna be a LONG way off. Sound familiar? You're NOT alone dude.
Gonna be tough, but we can do it. We're MEN ya know! :chuckle
