Nursing Students Male Students

Hi All!

I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.

I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.

When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.

So I want to know are there any men out there?

Hello all,

I'm hopefully starting class in July for LPN, was wondering if any one else is working 40+ hrs plus school and being a father.

That's where I'm about to go, was hoping to get some insight.

Thanks!

Been there...doing that! Welcome aboard!

How do/did you do it?? Night shift? Evening shift? I have no idea how I'm going to pull it all off....

This has been a goal of mine for a long time, I'm 24, trying to get LPN to ADN and I see everyone else is managing. How?? Any tips?

Thanks in advance guys,

u

I had been working days and going to school in the evenings, (I'm in an evening track for clinicals). This week I started 3rd shift after a month orienting to the new NI job. It is just a matter of switching when I sleep. I am fortunate because my wife and kids understand that I am going to miss some things such as games & choir concerts. We all know that the degree is worth the sacrifice. I try to spend as much time as I can with the family when I am not at work or school, and I teach Sunday school to our churches Jr high kids, (1 of my daughters is in that group).

I guess to simplify the whole thing, ya just do it. You make the commitment and move forward.

Good luck, you can do it too.

Hello eveyone,

I'm 35 and will be starting Nursing school this Fall! I got my acceptance letter this last weekend, it's nice to finally be able to relax (I was really stressing out--90 spots 812 applicants--and they were 6 weeks late with their decision). I'm currently a corrections officer in a max institution, and I plan to work through school. I work 2300-0700, so I get a lot of studying done at work. I also have some great nurses working at the prison that have promised to help with any questions. I'm also married with 2 girls, this ought to be very interesting, I can't wait to get started!!!!!

Good luck everyone,

Jeff

To UNEVEN & ALL WORKING STUDENTS:

Three words: JUST DO IT ! ! ! Take one step at a time and U will reach your goal. I am a new RN (since July 03). I worked full-time (11p-7a) and went 2 school full-time. I sacrificed my times w/ my wife and family and close friends. I sacrificed good times, sleep, and rest. U can make it... if U keep God and your supportive family w/ U during nursing school. U also must have a strong, never-give-up, and determined attitude because the strong survive. If U possess these "requirements" that I mentioned U will definitely make it (I promise U that). Anyways.... take care and JUST DO IT !!!

WARHAWK :)

Yep, I'm a 38-year-old father of 6 children who is starting a grad nursing program this fall.

Hey, shouldn't we be able to get minority scholarships????

Actually not a bad idea. The country needs more nurses and I assume they'd like more men in the profession. But, I sure haven't seen any scholarship money out there that I'd qualify for. Has anyone run into anything gender specific that we can all take a shot at?

That would be cool, but no..

I'm sure the female applicants wouldn't be too pleased.

You know, I joke about it but the truth of the matter is that males could apply for minority scholarships. I looked it up once and found out that anybody can apply for minority scholarhips if their demographic (sex, race, etc.) is under-represented in their profession or in the college. For us, it's both. I just have never worked up the courage to push the matter. But, per Federal law, we could.

We'll have to start a new sticky thread on this one. :chuckle

The school I'll be attending this fall didn't used to admit men - until someone "pushed the matter" back in the 80's. A guy applied to the nursing program was denied (it's Mississippi University for WOMEN) - he ended up suing the school and winning. I don't know if he ever enrolled or completed a degree there, but he made a big change, regardless. :)

Hey guys! I'm currently enrolled in an emt-b program and am starting my pre-reqs for my BSN this fall.I plan on getting an er tech gig while attending school and work part time as a waiter. It's a real blessing to read all your posts. They answered most of my questions and relieved all of my fears. My heart feels lighter knowing I have a group of peers I can turn to while I am on this path. Live free and don't let the woman keep you down:chair:

Blessings

Joshua
