is it possible 2 afford a 3br/2ba house in cal?
WOW!!! i'm overwhelmed (sp??) from the many responses to my thread. as you all know, i'm an rn in the beautiful florida gulf coast. i'm doing research on great places 2 live as an rn. i luv florida but our housing insurance is ridiculously going up in prices d/t the hurricanes of the past 3 years. the florida gulf coast was considered a "low cost of living area" but NOT if u r a homeowner. so far i am able 2 afford living in the florida gulf coast; however i am researching cali4nia as a potential place 2 live. my first research will b the golden state, and possibly houston, tx.... and possibly atlanta. i luv cali. i used 2 visit every other summer during the 90's when i was single and fell in love w/ your state. i want 2 thank..... malern2b, lilsassyrn, ben123, the commuter, lizz, mecyteapot, halinja, sisukas, bonny619, randybayrn, mainecriticalcare, nicky032605, and turbohound 4 your valuable input and takes. please continue w/ updated responses 2 my thread regarding 3b3/2ba houses 4 rn and salaries 4 a nurse of 8-9 years (lpn '98/rb 'rn 2003). pm anytime!!! Which stethoscope?
I own a ultrascope. I've done research and tried the littmans but the ultrascope is soooo much better. It also looks "cool" and has its own "personality". It also is less expensive compared to the littmans. You get more for your money with the ultrascope. WARHAWK320

computer vs. written charting............
Hey everyone, Just wanted your thoughts and inputs in this subject. Our hospital will be going to computerized charting starting this coming April 2005. We already had an 8 hour intro class and many of us are stressed out. I prefer written charting over computer charting. It seems that it takes tooooo long to chart on the computer. I work on a very very busy M/S floor. I know that it will be a hassle and a big problem when we start in April. We are all dreading this April but we have no choice but accept this challenge. Anyways... just venting my concerns to you. Can't wait to hear from you. WARHAWK320

Hey Dixielee: I'm considering travel nursing in the future. I love my job but the pay is embarrassing however it has great benefits. Anyways... the only thing holding me back w/ travel nursing is the benefits. Does RN Network have good insurance? My wife and me have no children. ANyways... please feel free to PM anytime for any info on travel nursing and RN Network. How's their private housing, pay, and recruiters? Thank you in advance. WARHAWK320

Working 7p-7a when Hurricane Ivan...(pray)
Hey everyone, Just wanted 2 thank U 4 your prayers, most especially, the ones who responded to my thread: blackcat99, ucandoit, shed13911, rnkittykat, 3rdshiftguy, angie o'plasty, and rubyvee. It was a very difficult, stressful 12 hour night while working during the hurricane. The hospital lost power and water/plumbing around midnite. Our generator was working but only for medical equipment and emergency lights. Therefore, the a/c was NOT working. It was HOT and miserable especially w/ NO water/plumbing. We had to move ALL of our patients in the hallways. Thankfully.... I work with some great RNs, Lpns, and techs. We all worked like a finely tuned machine. It was GREAT. I was even more proud to be an RN that night. I know that many of us bash our profession but I AM SHOUTING OUT LOUD AND PROUD THAT I AM A PROUD RN!!!!! We worked like a very close family. Although we work like that all the time.... we clearly showed it that night. We were able to "calm" our pts and family members. However... the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan has been a difficult one. There are still many without power and even some have lost their homes. I need your prayers for all who have suffered from Hurricane Ivan and also the other 2 Charly and Frances. There is a website of the many many photo gallerys of the destruction that Ivan left the Pensacola area and the NW gulf coast of FL. The website is from our local newspaper: http://www.pensacolanewsjournal.com. Thank U 4 your prayers and God bless U all!!! WARHAWK

Today is my 1st yr anniv. as an RN ! ! !
Hey everyone!!! Just wanted 2 let U know that this was the day that I found out that I was finally an RN. WOW!!! can't believe that I have one year experience. I have learned soooo much and am still learning. I work on a very busy M/S floor on the 7p-7a shift. I have a wonderful team that supports one another at all times. I remember this day like it was yesterday. I woke up that morning and quickly but cautiously got on the internet 2 C if I passed. As I typed in my name..... I slowly opened my eyes and saw my RN # and started screaming "thank U JESUS, thank U JESUS!!!" while runnning and jumping and pumping my fists in the air. Man... what a feeling!!! I know that there are many stressed out RNs and LPNs out there who hate and bash our field. However.... I just wanted 2 say that I truly LOVE nursing. I have found my niche. I know.... I know... that it can B stressful and difficult but I just love it when my patients say "thank U for helping me" or "thank U 4 caring 4 my mom...dad.... son.... daughter...etc. Those types of moments reinforce that this is the field I was chosen to do. Anyways... I just wanted 2 say "hello" to everyone and 2 let U know that I will B praying 4 R profession. May God bless it and may God bless U and your families. Much love, WARHAWK
