Nursing Students Male Students

Hi All!

I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.

I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.

When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.

So I want to know are there any men out there?

Specializes in Urgent Care.

Malenurse1, I live in the same town as you, small world! Are you going to MATC???

I feel like I didnt do so well on the NLN exam even though I believed that I would..

guess I'll just have to see.

;) I am 1 of 3 males in our graduating class. I think we started with 7 or 8 males. I have to admit, being single and having a girl to guy ratio of 42:3 is great. We are set to graduate May 2004 as RN's. I honestly can't count how many jobs I've been offered. The response from employers is amazing. I have accepted a job working in an OR.

For what it is worth, Agent, I did not do well on my NLN exams but passed my boards with flying colors.

Count me in. Glad to see there are more than the 5 in my class of 40.

Well I did my interview for the ADN program here in Overland Park, Kansas. 110 candidates interviewed and 55 will be accepted. Should know at the end of March...

Ill keep you posted.

Not only am I the only male in my nursing program, I am also the youngest person in the program. I will graduate in May and be able to take boards to be an RN:)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have truly enjoyed being in school, but I am ready to be out and working. To me and my classmates it is really amusing that I will be an RN before I am legally and adult (I will be 20 when I graduate).

Hello,

I've just found this great forum and thought I'd say hi.

I started training on a Diploma in september. I'm really glad to be doing it. I'm know I'm doing the right thing, and on the whole am loving it.

From what I've been reading it sounds like it's about the same proportion of male-to-female over here. In my class of about 45 we started with, there were 4 male. Unfortunately two dropped out leaving just the two of us.

The only time I've found it slightly intimidating was when we were in a lecture of about 100-150 students.. and I was the only man in attendance. Guess who got volunteered to come and help with a demonstration.. uh huh.. me.. yikes.. :imbar

Mostly though I'm quite happy with being in the minority though. :p

All the best,

J.

Hey Guys, I'm a female taking my pre-reqs but just wanted to say I am looking forward to working with my male counterparts...I have trouble relating to women even though I try really hard! I refuse to talk about nails and hair, and I hate gossip. I'm not trying to lump all females together, don't get me wrong! I'm just biased right now because I work with a dozen catty females and can't wait to get out and work with some men, haha.

Take care y'all...guys and gals.

I totally agree! I cannot work with an ALL female (or all male) group. Where I work (a busy ED) there are about 60%female, 40%male...an let me tell you, no pale, scrawny surgeon is ever gonna mess with these manly male nurses(yes, yes, I'm generalizing, dont get mad!)! You guys are very welcome in this historically female field. Plus, a lot of female patients tell me how cute and sexy their nurse was. There was even a feature on it in Cosmo, but I forget which month. Good luck! We chiquitas support you!

Oh yeah, I forgot.....

I am speaking to a group of middle schoolers about careers in healthcare with a focus on Nursing (yep, they are startin' young these days!). Is there anything I can say to make these guys see that nursing is a co-ed career? I'm not trying to brainwash or anything :p but I don't want them to immediatly zone out when I begin talking about nursing careers, degrees, etc. Thanks for the help!!!

Yeah at that age tell them that they can work with a bunch of beautiful female nurses lol :rotfl:
