I believe the whole thing will go the way of Hilary Care. Americans don't want it. We wanted abortion, gay marriage, and we got them. Took a long time but the public spoke out. I don't see the grass roots effort here. JMHO:typing

Stick a fork in it. Even my parents are against it (and they had such great hopes for the Chosen One).
I am absolutely baffled as to how a "public option", for health care, became the "boogy man". I lost my health insurance when I got divorced this spring. I am not a "welfafre slob", schemer, I am not irresponsible person. I lost my insurance because I got divorced.
I have been unable to find a nursing job in a hospital. Experienced nurses who have been out of the work force are as welcome as a case of leprosy. Nursing jobs here in Spokane are in short supply due to the three schools of nursing here, and countless others, in outlying areas. All jobs are in short supply in Eastern Washington.
So here I was, 54 years old, no job, and no health insurance. Fortunately, I am an AF Reserve nurse, and several years ago, I can only assume that the military noticed that their reserve members had no health insurance, and could not afford the astronomical cost of a private plan, and decided to offer Tricare medical insurance to reservists. I was able to get on that plan.
It only costs me $47 a month for health insurance for myself. If I wanted to insure a family, it would cost $180 a month.
I get prescriptions for free at the base, and if I buy them at Riteaid, a name brand drug costs $9, regardless of what it costs, and generic costs only $3.
I also have Tricare dental, and that only costs me $12 a month. I had dental work done when I worked for Blue Cross, and Tricare dental paid more, and that was when I was working for Blue Cross. I have had surgeries with Tricare medical insurance, and I have paid out of pocket $81 for an overnight hospital stay for major orthopedic surgery. Only once did they question some lab work that I had done, because they said that it was not medically necessary. I provided them with documentation, and they promptly paid the bill.
My point is, that YOUR TAX DOLLARS ARE PAYING FOR THIS CARE, WHY CAN'T YOU BUY INTO THIS PROGRAM???
Does it really sound that bad? No one comes to my house and gives me the third degree why I need done what I had done. No one questions my health care. I only have to have pre approval for major things, like surgery, or MRIs or CAT scans, etc. i have never had anything denied. Period!! Neither has anyone I know. That is the big bad boogy man. Keep you for progiit insurance companies. They are running scared because they know that if the public has the option, they will all drop their private plans. Period. JMHO and my NY $0.02.

This is the Government health care that everyone is demonizing.
Let's put all the free loaders, frequent flyers, and illegal aliens on tricare and then tell me how much in debt they are. Military people by and large are very healthy individuals and as such their health care expenditures are not as much as the general population. I know for a fact tricare has horrible reimbursement for physicians (atleast it did a few years ago) and as such physicians would not add tricare patients as new clients.

I believe the taxpayers are assisting Tricare which is not 100% self supporting, Tricare gets billions of dollars to keep it afloat. I have no issue with supporting veterans. But you can't compare Tricare to the government option it is not self supporting. And on top of that the plans are sub contracted to other insurance companies.

Military members may, as a whole, be healthier than the general public, but Tricare also covers miltary family members of active duty personnel. Until my divorce, my only health care provider was Tricare. The military has no control over how healthy military spouses are, or their children. You also must never have seen some of the "commissary queens", that grace the halls of the BX and Commissary.
They are no healthier than the general population. And lets not talk about military retirees. The reason that the military is now considering banning smoking among recruits, and other military members, is because of the medical costs for retirees, who have smoking related diseases, obesity, diabetes, etc. JMHO and my NY $0.02.

Public options is not dead
from the Heritage Foundation
"The headlines are encouraging: The AP reports, "White House appears ready to drop 'public option'." Politico reads, "White House backs away from public health care option." And the front page of USA Today says, "Obama may drop public option in health care." These headers all stem from Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius' comment on CNN Sunday Morning that the public option "is not the essential element" of President Barack Obama's health care plan. But by Sunday night the White House was already walking back Sebelius' statement."
