The College of New Rochelle Accelerated Nursing Program 2015

Published

Hello All,

I just got accepted to The College of New Rochelle's Accelerated Nursing Progam starting in June 2015. I AM OVERJOYED, I have some things to smooth out before the start of the program (taking 2 CLEP exams) but I am so excited. I completed my first bachelors in Sept 2014 , so I am excited to get back into school. Has anyone attended the College of New Rochelle? Any tips/advice/comments? Let me know!

Congratulations !! classes starts I think in June around the 20th or so . @ Ranftlea

Ranftlea i'm still waiting when did you complete your application ?

On Monday lol! I am unsure if I am going to go though because I was looking online and the NCLEX scores were really bad for 2013. Does anyone know how the program is? For the tuition that they charge I would hope that it's an excellent program.

Mandatory Orientation: June 9

Class starts: June 29 (6 weeks)

I am concerned about the decline in the NCLEX pass rates for 2013 and 2014 too. However, I do know that changes were made to the exam in 2013 and many schools were not prepared for it. Hence, there does seem to be a decline somewhat across the board. Also, CNR didn't have a Dean of Nursing for about a year, but they now have a new dean that came from Drexel who started last fall who has been implementing changes to the program to increase the pass rates (mandatory hesi exams every semester, must pass the hesi and dosage calc exams in order to move forward in the program, changes in some faculty members, etc). I am hopeful since they are being very proactive in improving their program and the fact that they have been offering nursing programs for many years and previously had a good reputation and decent NCLEX pass rates before all this. I spoke to an admin at CNRwho told me they were very disappointed in the NCLEX results and mentioned that all these changes are in process to not let that happen again.

In regards to tuition, I actually think it was quite fair for a private school. It's currently $724 per credit for second degree students. 59 credits * 724= $42716. I looked up the tuition for other ABSN programs in the ny area...Concordia is $48k, nyu is $87k, pace $53k, LIU $67k, Wagner $68k.

@ACW2015 I was locked out of my previous account you commented on. Congratulations to you!!! We will be classmates, right now im looking for ways to pay this tuition! I also have to take a CLEP test for Computers. Did you have any course work to complete befeore class starts?

@Futurern15, Thank you! I applied in November so I think thats why I heard back earlier, hopefully you hear back from them soon, I am waiting to hear from NYU and SBU, but they are taking too long for my nerves lol

@Ranftlea, Congratulations!! We will be classmates :), class starts on June 29th

My New Account is NurseAlly817...I cannot log back into this one lol

I'm currently completing my last pre-req (Microbiology) at Nassau Community College. Will be done on 5/15, and starting the professional phase at CNR 6/29.

I'm taking out loans to pay for 1/2 the tuition and will be paying the rest out of pocket, sigh, and I thought I was DONE with students loans when I paid off my first degree. I wanted to apply for. NYU too, but seriously can't afford the 90k tuition. :T

I really wish there was a way around taking this computer exam , seems so unnecessary. I'm also trying to figure out if driving will be best or if I should attempt to live on campus, that toll plus gas is going to add up quickly !

I am currently enrolled in CNR nursing program, and i highly recommend living on campus. Its so much easier as its so easy to be distracted at home.

that's an excellent point, I would like to live on campus but I have to figure out how I will pay for everything. Unfortunately I miss out on a lot of financial aid because I'm on my second bachelors degree. But I am for sure contemplating living on campus. Are you in the accelerated program or traditional ?

Oh wow, just saw the 2014 pass rate, that's a little crazy. However, I'm not worried at all, as a current student at CNR. As mentioned, there are now HESI exams throughout the curriculum, as well as an exit HESI exam that must be passed to graduate. HESI apparently is a good predictor of passing the NCLEX (these exams simulate the NCLEX and we take them on the computer, just like the NCLEX). Dosage calculation tests have always been there (pretty standard at nursing schools). With each nursing clinical course, you can log into the HESI/Evolve website, find the textbook you're using, and they have a ton of resources available, including more NCLEX-style questions.

And that's really the key to doing well and passing exams and ultimately the NCLEX. Do as many practice questions as possible. I recommend getting an NCLEX book as soon as you start, as well as the "Success" series of books ("Fundamentals Success", Med-Surg Success, etc). After reviewing content (from my notes/powerpoints, the textbook, and the NCLEX book), I do practice questions in all those books/HESI site before an exam. I think that doing this, I'll be well prepared for the NCLEX. Other people study just the powerpoints and leave it at that, and while they may pass exams (though you can't get As like that), they aren't prepared for the boards.
