The Brooklyn Hospital Center

Published

Hey everyone-

I'm new to ALLNURSES and I'm looking for some advice from anyone who is familiar with this facility or can help me out in general.

I'm supposed to be starting a nursing job in critical care at The Brooklyn Hospital center. Orientation is Monday July 1st. My problem is that it's Wednesday and I've got no information on uniforms, time and location of orientation, what I should bring etc. Every time I've contacted Nurse Recruitment about this it's been hard to get a straight answer or they've been busy with job fairs and I've been told over and over again "We will get back to you this afternoon" and they haven't.

The problem is my start date has been pushed back a month from June due to "internal issues" and now that I think I'm finally going to start this July I'm afraid they will do this again. I've had to put in all the work initiating conversation which is awful cause I feel like a nuisance. The last time I contacted them was yesterday with no real answers.

My question is should I go over the department's head and ask nursing education about what I should bring, what time is orientation and what I should need to wear? Does anyone out there in the community know? Should I just show up Monday? Nurse Recruitment hasn't told me otherwise about my start date but of course I'm getting nervous when I'm not really getting the answers I need back to my calls and emails.

ps I'm really excited to be starting here too! It would be awful if it didn't work out.

Appreciated,

Heather

Hey! Sorry about your frustration, but congrats on getting a job at the Brooklyn Hospital! I just got cleared to volunteer on their PICU and I'm going to pick up my ID tomorrow. I'm really hoping that volunteering there could open up a job opportunity for me. What unit will you be working on? My best advice would be to go there in person before your start date and speak to someone. Human resources has been backed up for a while, but I'm sure someone can speak to you if you drop by.

Hi heather, I'm in the same situation with the brooklyn hospital center right now. I'm excited to have gotten an offer and I'm trying to get everything done and into the Sept 3 orientation. I was wondering if you could tell me how your experience ended up with the orientation, pharm exam, uniform etc.

Thanks!

can you describe your application and interview/clearance process for volunteering there? i just got my last ppd today for medical requirements

For those who work here, can you share your experience? Glassdoor reviews are not wonderful, but there are not many from nursing staff.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone has anything they can share about working here - would love to hear your input.

Hi Kgraha17, I hope I can contact you through here, I'm going to be taking the pharm test in a couple days, any advice? I would really appreciate. ...

Specializes in MedSurg, PACU, Maternal/Child Health.

It is 10 questions and it is half on common medications and side effects and other half on medication calculation.

If anyone is still reading, are nurses at brooklyn hospital required to wear white scrubs?

Hello, I am a new grad who just got offered an ED positions- I went to an open house event they hosted July 31st, it was a wonderful experience and the nurse manger was very friendly, I found out 2 weeks later via email that I have been selected. I am going to come in to take the pharm exam soon, any advice? And anyone care to share orientation with me! thank you so much!

Hi, So the pharmacology test was 25 questions, the back page was matching drugs to what they do, only 3 med calc, no calculators, the rest was MC, and 3 of which has an " all of the above" options, u need 70% to pass, they do not give u a study guide at all, if you passed nclex and are decent with your pharmacology basics, youll pass!

If anyone has info on ED scrub colors, and how orientation was for them? please share thank you!

MishkaRN2019 were any of the med calculations IV calculations or were they basic med calc?
