The Brooklyn Hospital Center

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hey everyone-

I'm new to ALLNURSES and I'm looking for some advice from anyone who is familiar with this facility or can help me out in general.

I'm supposed to be starting a nursing job in critical care at The Brooklyn Hospital center. Orientation is Monday July 1st. My problem is that it's Wednesday and I've got no information on uniforms, time and location of orientation, what I should bring etc. Every time I've contacted Nurse Recruitment about this it's been hard to get a straight answer or they've been busy with job fairs and I've been told over and over again "We will get back to you this afternoon" and they haven't.

The problem is my start date has been pushed back a month from June due to "internal issues" and now that I think I'm finally going to start this July I'm afraid they will do this again. I've had to put in all the work initiating conversation which is awful cause I feel like a nuisance. The last time I contacted them was yesterday with no real answers.

My question is should I go over the department's head and ask nursing education about what I should bring, what time is orientation and what I should need to wear? Does anyone out there in the community know? Should I just show up Monday? Nurse Recruitment hasn't told me otherwise about my start date but of course I'm getting nervous when I'm not really getting the answers I need back to my calls and emails.

ps I'm really excited to be starting here too! It would be awful if it didn't work out.

Appreciated,

Heather

RUN FROM THIS PLACE, ITS HELL. OMG I LEFT SO FAST! NEVER ANY NEW GRADS COME TO THIS DEMONIC HOSPITAL.!!!!!!!

@MishkaRN2019 Yikes, omg what do you mean? Please elaborate.

Honestly, everything was fine until you go to the floors after 2 week in the classroom after that it WAS NOT. Directors and managers are rude, disrespectful, have no bedside experience. They Bully nurses, Senior nurses have a lot of control and make it a toxic environment. Often times the Units are very understaffed, no equipment ( PUMPS TO RUN FLUIDS)... i can't knock a 175 year old establishment for being rundown, but they are not progressive at all. New comers often LEAVE in horror, its not a good place at all. I have worked in many establishments as a student nurse, and this is by far the most unprofessional, distasteful place. Horrible staff retention, Union representation can't do much for you. Pharmacy is slow, basically if you want to put your license at risk, you found the right place. Each place has its own nonsense. but this TAKES THE CAKE!!!

Oh my god! I am so sorry this happened to you. I am not very nervous. Because I am on my 2nd day of classroom orientation. I Was hired for CCU float department. What department were you in?

I know its a shame, because the nurse educators, be very mindful of them. They are not on your side. especially the Critical care educator... you know her name! The hospital is very understaffed, never enough equipment, I am a new grad with no experience so for me it was a complete shock!!! CCU float is cool, 6th floor gets covered by the ED director, so be mindful of him, if u have a brain he gets mad and makes you clock out for "being rude". he likes sheep to manipulate LOL.... never had bedside experience, somehow manages hospital units. crazy world.

Specializes in ICU Stepdown, Oncology.
