  1. I GOT IN OFF THE WAITLIST!!!!! YAY!!!!!! I'm an ICU nurse from New York City! Anyone else traveling down from where I am? SOOOO EXCITED! See you all soon!
  2. i'm a brooklyn gal too. If you're looking for an online FNP program be sure to call the school and do some digging. Sometimes NYS won't license you if you have your certification from a specific school or state. Samford, georgetown and frontier are the only online FNP schools I know of that NYS will recognize.
  3. Any new Yorkers??? I applied back in JUNE and I realized I won't find out anything until much later since classes are starting in Feb. Anyone have any idea when they start sending acceptance letters? What is the difference between 133 and 134?
  4. Thanks for the solid information. I'm not going to take any legal action though. It was just a thought of mine since I was so confused as to how this all happened. Even though hospitals have a right to move you around - hospitals around here pay higher for specialties and since the vent floor isn't an ICU I'd be getting salaried at a lower rate which wasn't my initial offer. Stinks. But I'm not going to do it, if any thing I'd be better off trying to get my old job back. It would be a shame to be stuck on a floor for a year where I wouldn't be happy. If you don't like your work it impacts your care. Anyway, it is hard to find jobs in NY, insanely hard, but thanks everyone I think I have my answer now.
  5. well as it turns out I didn't get the job and I don't know what to do. The unit manager of the ICU was fired - she was firing people on her floor (union members) who I guess were pretty mad they lost their jobs. They reported her and in turn she was fired and they had to give all those people their jobs back. I was applying for a position that didn't technically exist any more. The problem is, I had to call nurse recruitment to FIND THIS OUT just YESTERDAY. I can't believe that this JUST happened - they had to have known these issues were going on internally yet I quit my job and signed a year lease on an apt. and now I'm stuck. I'm just wondering if any of this is legal? I have an acceptance email, a start day, my salary and everything. They said the best they could do for me was give me a position on a Vent floor - but I did not leave my old ICU job for a position on a vent floor. I'm not used to that kind of care and patient load. I also am not interested in losing my skills. I'm at a loss of what to do next or how to get a job in NY with an associate's degree and a little over a year experience. I want ICU. Any ideas anyone? This is devastating to me.
  6. Hey everyone- I'm new to ALLNURSES and I'm looking for some advice from anyone who is familiar with this facility or can help me out in general. I'm supposed to be starting a nursing job in critical care at The Brooklyn Hospital center. Orientation is Monday July 1st. My problem is that it's Wednesday and I've got no information on uniforms, time and location of orientation, what I should bring etc. Every time I've contacted Nurse Recruitment about this it's been hard to get a straight answer or they've been busy with job fairs and I've been told over and over again "We will get back to you this afternoon" and they haven't. The problem is my start date has been pushed back a month from June due to "internal issues" and now that I think I'm finally going to start this July I'm afraid they will do this again. I've had to put in all the work initiating conversation which is awful cause I feel like a nuisance. The last time I contacted them was yesterday with no real answers. My question is should I go over the department's head and ask nursing education about what I should bring, what time is orientation and what I should need to wear? Does anyone out there in the community know? Should I just show up Monday? Nurse Recruitment hasn't told me otherwise about my start date but of course I'm getting nervous when I'm not really getting the answers I need back to my calls and emails. ps I'm really excited to be starting here too! It would be awful if it didn't work out. Appreciated, Heather
