Hi guys, Bonne Annee, Happy New Year.
I've moved to Tyler near Dallas to prepare for nursing school next fall; however, I seem to be extremely overwhelmed at what I do not know and what I will need to know.
I hope to begin voluteer work in telemetry at a good well known Christian hospital just to get some exposure since I've rarely even stepped into a hospital!!
Additionally, I will also start reviewing my former A & P texts and try to learn all the abbreviations and even buy a sphygmomanometer to practice on a friend or my neighbor who is a physical therapist.
Any other suggestions...I just can't believe how overwhelming this is..but I need to trust God that he will bring me through..one day and one hour at a time.

Sounds like you are going to be well prepared. Remember to review nursing drug calculations. I think there is a web-site Math.com that has formulas and practice exams. Good luck.

I just finished my first semester in nursing school so I'm no pro but... the way I prepared for this semester and hospital rotation was to buy books, a uniform and relax. You have time to learn everything once it's presented to you. I had stepped into a hospital maybe 2x before this semester and it wasn't a problem. Just relax and have fun--you'll have enough to stress about once you get started! :) Good luck

I agree with the person who said to review med calcs. At my school they gave us a test like the 2nd week of school and if you didn't pass it (ok, you had 3 tries but many people still freaked out) you were dropped from the program.

Take a deep breath & relax. Practice the med calculations until you are comfortable with them. Remember that you are studying nursing: not medicine. Concentrate on nursing care.
Tyler is a beautiful area. Go to the Mudbug festival in Shreveport, you're also close to Nacogdoches, Tx.
My favorite doctor once told me to "slow down & eat the elephant one bite at a time."
You'll do fine.
