That DREAMY First Check!

Published

Hello,

I am a second year nursing student. When it seems like I can't see the light at the end of the graduating tunnel, I dream about what I am gonna do with my first RN check. There are so many things I wanna do. What did some of you do with that Dreamy First Check? Sometimes, I wanna say that I am just gonna shop til' I drop, sign up for a years worth of massages to get rid of the school stress. Put the down on a nice new car. But did you all blow your check or just went straight to bills. I think I'm gonna frame mines!

I got an aprtment ALONE! Just me and my kids, Then the kids and I went to dinner in a real restaurant and then we went to the movies.

Dont go to crazy with that first check, but i do suggest starting to put a bit back so you can buy something nice for just you in a few months. I went to the nearest jewler and bought a real expensive piece of jewlery. Nothing i had to share, nothing someone else could borrow, something that isnt going to lose value the minute i drive it off the car lot. Something all mine,, selfish maybe, but i earned it.

I can't remember WHAT I did with it - I just remember being AMAZED that I had a paycheck that NETTED me 4 figures.

It was the first time in my life that I cleared over $1,000.00 in a single check without ANY "overtime".

I thought I was gonna die from joy!

Now, I look to clear that a week.

Perspective is EVERYTHING!

Or at least a photocopy ;).

We don't get paper checks; only direct deposit where I work, but I looked at mine several times a day on the computer--until I realized I could print it and save myself the logging in, LOL.

What I'm loving is all the PTO :).

I've got a bunch of kids so that's where my money went, but I definitely had enough for an outfit--including shoes. I like the idea of jewelry, though--that would be a permanent reminder of a big day!

Ahhh, the first check...my fiance and I have been dreaming about that for a while now too! :lol2: First thing I'll do is to pad my savings account (it's been sitting at the minimum balance for almost a year now, oops!) and take care of some of our credit card debt. I'd love to bite the bullet and make the down payment for a new car for us, but that'll have to wait until the debt's taken care of.

The one thing I will be getting however is a new pair of chic glasses, the Dolce and Gabbana ones I've had my eyes on for several months now! ;)

Friday I'll get my first full 2 week paycheck and I'm calling nutrasystem

GOT TO GET OFF THE WEIGHT I GAINED IN SCHOOL!!!

Taking kids to Dixie stampede and school shopping (and remind my husband how I need a new car for my new job)

CONGRATS!!! on that decision, I love nutrisystem. I did it last year. But for me, by the time I finished nursing school, I was so in debt, I payed bills, and that barely got me through and I even lost my phone and internet two days before, but I still had to wait for 2 weeks witht he next one to get them reconnected. It took my sign on bonus to catch everything up.

I just got my 1st RN paycheck 1 week ago. It was for $1,400 take home, not gross.

*I payed about 500$ in bills

*prepayed $340 for a cabin in the mountains (my boyfriend and i are going next weekend)

*bought lotions and sprays at bath and body works $50

*gave my sister $100

*$50 in gas for my truck (it hasn't been more than a quarter full for the last 2 years)

*bought random junk that I can't remember....

And I have $55.01 in my savings....woo hoo; for the last 4 years I only had $5.01

It was nice, but I think I'll be a little wiser with it next pay and put more in my savings.

I also had so many many many plans for my first check....I think I started planning it when i still had a year left of school.

Please tell me that was for a one week check....1400 just does not seem like that much money to me anymore :uhoh3: kinda sad when your cost of living requires that much money. I remember when we had a minimum wage jobs and made ends meet. Now I bring home about 4500 every 2 weeks and still wonder where it's going. I don't even remember what I did with my first nursing paycheck. Heck I don't remember what I did with my last paycheck.

I just started my first job on Monday. For 2 yrs I have dreamed what I would do with that check. Now the time is here and my student loans ran out before I get paid :o so....I have last month's bills to catch up on and maybe will get a dinner out with what's left. I hope I'll be able to enjoy at least part of my second check.

I bring home about 1200 every two weeks. I make $21.27/hour and can't get overtime until I'm off orientation.

oh thats because you are in florida, things and pays are much different here in NY

Now I bring home about 4500 every 2 weeks

I would definitely be content with that figure :lol2:

If I may ask, how many hours do you need to work for such a nice sum...
