Thankfulness - What's Yours?

So this is the week of one of our biggest holidays - Thanksgiving. Now is a good time to remember to be grateful. It started long ago as a way to express gratitude for a bountiful harvest. Now, it sometimes seems to be overshadowed by our frantic pace to start our Christmas shopping. To get back to the roots of the holiday:

What are you grateful for in 2018?

Specializes in Urgent Care, Oncology.

I am thankful that my patients remind me every day of their grace, strength, and courage when going through a cancer diagnosis. I am thankful that they trust me to guide them on this journey and be with them every step of the way - and I truly mean that.

I am thankful that my facility provides more benefits that most facilities and continues to allow and encourage nurses to pursue continuing education.

I am thankful to still have a job as a nurse despite having a disability (AS).

I am thankful that this year marks 10 years of remission for me from cancer.

I am thankful that my husband's fertility procedure worked and his numbers are normal now (low normal, but still normal). They literally quadrupled.

I am most thankful for my son, and the fact that he made it through a life threatening health scare last month! Thankful for his beautiful wife and that they will both be coming home for Christmas this year!

My amazing friends and family and friends who are family!

A great job that I get to do what I love, that my patients give me the honor and privilege of caring for them!

Tomorrow isn't promised, and I learned that the hard was recently, so I'm thankful for today!

Best to you all! ❤️

Specializes in medical surgical.

I am thankful for my health (mental and physical). I am thankful that I do not suffer any tremendous hardship in my life. I am thankful for the many wonderful patients that I serve. Also the fact that I still have my father in my life (he is 88).

Specializes in PICU, Pediatrics, Trauma.
I'm thankful for family, friends, and the simple things in life. I love that first cup of coffee in the morning, electric blankets, leaves crunching underfoot, a warm roof over my head. Even though I'd rather still have my big old house in the woods where so much of my life happened, I've been so close to homelessness that I never take housing for granted.

I'm thankful for pets, who are always available for a cuddle. These dogs love me unconditionally and want only to please me. They also know I adore them and will almost always let them lick my dinner plate when I'm finished. Sometimes I'm *not* finished, and let 'em have it anyway.

I'm thankful for my faith, which has seen me through a lot of losses in my life. I've often questioned it during these past two years since my husband passed away, but something in me holds on to a glimmer of hope that there's something better for me after this life is done. It may not work for everyone, but it does for me.

And, I'm thankful for being able to come here day after day and year after year, to drink deeply of the wisdom of other nurses and, once in a while, share some of my own. I've been here for 16 years, and even though I no longer practice I want to stay relevant.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you for a beautiful gratefulness post!

Meaningful to me. Got a tear.
