Thank You Note to GPC's Nursing Program

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I can’t neglect to thank the faculty and staff of the GPC nursing program for my experience while enrolled. The reason it is important for me to say thanks is because my plethora of negative experiences while enrolled in the program helped me to be truly grateful for the nursing program I left GPC for.

If I had never gone to GPC and been treated like dirt by many of the faculty and staff (minus a select few – you know who you are) I would not appreciate the instructors I now have nearly as much in my new program.

My time at GPC helped me to develop a thicker skin, more confidence in myself, and a deeper faith in God because that’s the only way you will make it out of there with enough sanity to thrive in another program as I now am.

I know that many students that leave GPC’s nursing program are not able to get into other programs for various reasons. To those of you in this situation, don’t give up on your dream. GPC is not at all the typical nursing program despite what others have said. Unfortunately, many are so wounded after leaving that they don’t continue to pursue nursing.

Just a few of the things that I have in my current RN program that I did not have at GPC are:

  • Rationales provided for all tests questions
  • Polite, respectful faculty and staff
  • Returned calls and emails
  • Organization, Organization, Organization
  • Tests questions whose correct answers can be found in the required reading
  • Not having to put my family on the backburner until I finish school
  • Exam grades and a GPA that reflect the diligence that I put into my studies

Again, GPC I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unprofessional, uncaring, and blatantly unfair practices because they have served to make me a more grateful, and solid nursing student currently finishing up in another program.

God Bless

I don't see where anyone is bashing anyone who has posted here. To say "have at it" is not being negative. In fact, we are simply answering the question asked....

Nursing is not for everyone. We need good compassionate nurses who can handle reality and think on their feet. So let's all just try to accept the advise that is posted here without malice....we are sharing our stories and trying to bring to light what to expect.

The posts in question were edited. There is nothing wrong with saying "have at it" that is why I did not ask anyone to not say "have at it." I stated that calling WorriedStudent "condescending" or to say "should have common sense....." is against the terms of service for this website. I hope that this is clear enough for everyone. If there are any questions, please feel free to pm me. I am here to help.

Sincerely,

Jay

After reading this thread, are we sure the nursing program is that bad over there, or is it just a bunch of mediocre students who had no choice but to go to Perimeter that are complaining?

Me: 1200 SAT score out of 9th grade

Compass: Reading/Writing/Math (out of 9th): 99/99/63

NET: 90th percentile with no prep or studying.

GPA: 3.75 Biology, 3.35 Nursing program, 3.8 overall since starting back to school.

Gifted program since first grade.

I guess I am wondering if I will personally have a hard time with the program...

Hi Worriedstudent,

You seem to be focused on the wrong thing here. The question is whether you will even have the opportunity to become a nurse considering your personal situation.

I noticed that you posted in November '07 regarding your concern since you have had a series of DUIs in the past (very recent past at that). If I were you I would not be questioning at all whether other people could or could not cut it in GPC's program. You need to make sure you will even have a chance of becoming a nurse with those DUIs on your record. Your WHOLE PAST is looked at - not just your grades and exam scores.

Your focus should be whether you're even going to be eligible to go to clinicals because of the required background checks. Thereafter, even if you do get through any nursing program it's an issue of whether you will you even be able to sit for the boards with your type of record. You've got some MAJOR issues going on. That's where my focus would be if I were you - YOUR ELIGIBILITY NOT OTHER PEOPLE'S ABILITIES.

But it's okay to think (or question) that people are " just a bunch of mediocre students who had no choice" because they were not above average students in school. It's funny to me that many people ask questions about what's posted, and on one takes offense, but usually if more than one person takes offense to something, it's probably because it was offensive. I could've thought of many ways to ask a question without making a negative accusation along with it. Just ask the question, there's no need to put your opinion, definitely it it's negative, of the people who are subscribing to this post, let's not forget what this post is about. There are over 5 pages of comments about this same school, and most of the posts are negative comments. A valid way of asking this question is " These are my scores...etc..., I see all the things that people are saying about GPC, do you think that I will personally have a hard time with the program...?"

Please let me clarify again. Yes, this was determined by staff to be an appropriate question. Worried did NOT accuse anyone of being mediocre. He/she only asked if that was the case here. If he/she would have stated, "you people are just a bunch of mediocre students," THEN it would have been unacceptable and edited/deleted. People are taking offense because they FEEL like he/she was calling THEM "mediocre" which he/she did NOT. Please, reread the original post by Worried without being personally invested/bias and I believe you will see what I am stating. There is a big difference between, "Is it mediocre students or is it really that tough" and, what many people here are reading..."It IS mediocre students, it's not that tough."

All that being stated, I would like to remind everyone that attacking others, as well as openly disagreeing with staff decisions on the public forum, is against the terms of service. This thread is going off-track. In order to keep it open. Let's get back to the op's post about GPC and not about WorriedStudent.

You're quite welcome. I wish you the very best as you earn your degree.

I will be attended GPC in that summer. I was there last week and when I inquired about the LPN bridge progam they said that there was no bridge for 2009."It is being revamped". I guess all the comments on here are true and the school as well as the nursing board has realized this. I hope by the time I finish my prereqs that they have fixed the issues and their "attitudes". Wish me luck

I am an escapee from the GPC nursing program and am happy to say I am now thriving in another program and yes actually believe I will graduate. I would just like to say that if 6 pages of mostly negative comments don't convince you to stay away from this school maybe this last thought will........No one and I do mean no one transfers into the GPC nursing program, they only transfer out! Good luck.

All the negativety aside...DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN GPC ACTUALLY BEGINS SENDING ACCEPTANCE/DENIAL LETTER FOR FALL????

thanks!
