Thank goodness for allnurses...I have a meeting with a TCN "advisor" tomorrow.

Published

Thank goodness I found this website.

I am an LPN and I am considering starting classes to obtain my RN. I have been looking around on the internet to check out my options. (I have a three year old daughter, 14 month old twin boys, and a husband leaving for Iraq very soon). Traditional college is not really a safe bet, all I need is one virus for the kids and I have missed too much class time.

From what I am seeing I need to avoid college network and rue and go through Excelsior college directly? I am from Tn. Are there any other colleges out there that I might check into for online/distance learning that I may have missed? I am going to call Tn BON tomorrow and double check on acceptance of EC but wanted to make sure if there were other programs I might have missed so I can ask all questions with one call.

I am always open to advice and input. Anything you can recommend would be appreciated. I am going to continue to read through other postings and learn more.

Thank you everyone for your input....*update*...TCN "advisor" did come. I was very prepared and asked several questions she didn't like. The final question was, "why should I use your company when I can go directly through EC?" She was not prepared and didn't have a response. I did not sign, do not plan on signing and it is all thanks to the input and this website. I plan on calling EC tomorrow and find out what I need to do to get started with them. Oh, and it now cost $6915.oo if you only need two classes in addition to the nursing courses. PLUS $4040.00 from EC for their part. Almost $11000!! They are crazy!! The "advisor" also stated that I needed to hurry because it is going up in June.....lol....not for meeeee!! Anyway, once again, thank you all for your input and post that helped me avoid this problem. Thank you:yeah:

Sweety, www.excelsior.edu. Find the school of nursing.

Best of luck. I got the RN via Excelsior, too. WITHOUT TCN.

They are ridiculous! I did not use them either.I spent roughly $8500 for my EC degree. That included me and my husbands airline and hotel for the CPNE. So just for a school stand point, I spent $7500. I also bought their Modules offline and was not impressed with the vaugness on the topics. I recommend that you buy studygroup101 notes or the recommended text books from EC. Good Luck!

O yes lord they talk a very good game (The College Network) my advise stay away time is to hard to give them 5,000+ . I'm so glad I took the time to research about The College Network) if you go to will will hear about other people experieces with The College Network. http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/terrible-experience-c138763.html

they almost had me convinced, until i came here! now, i have heard that they have had a "group" meeting at the school i graduated from last year. the guy told the students how "many" of us from last year's class are pursuing our rn through them, blah blah blah. i work with one of the girl's mother, an rn of over 20 years, had both of them convinced. when i explained how my "meeting" with jim went, i think mom finally came back to reality. they still want some proof that tcn isn't the actual college, but i have directed them here and have a whole stack of paperwork to show them...hope the other students in this class don't fall for it! funny, as far as i know, i'm the only one enrolling in excelsior, w/o the "help" of tcn, and i think one other girl is in the local program her. oh, they are fast talkers....

You can direct them to TCN's own website. They state: "The College Network is not a school and does not award degrees or certificates." -- http://www.college-net.com/
