The best book that I have for practicing for tests is the "success" book such as fundamentals, Med surg, mental health success....they have TONS of multiple choice questions broken into chapters and they tell you why the choices are right and wrong. Also get an NCLEX book, I have Saunders and its really good to use further into school.
I swear by the Prentice Hall Nursing Reviews and Rationales they have for EVERY nursing subject. Right now I have the Med Surg 2nd edition and the Maternal Newborn Nursing the old edition. You don't need the newest editions of these either but they have NCLEX questions and clarify what you may not understand by reading the text book. Plus it has VangoNotes which you can add to your smartphone, download unto a CD, or just hear it on you laptop. They are audio version of the chapters. I love Mary Hogans review books but I also have Saunders Comprehensice NCLEX review book too but usually pick the Prentice Hall books for clarifying information in class.
I have also used Nursing Made Incredibly Easy series for Patho and Nursing Fundamentals but didn't really use it much since those classes did not seem that hard. I also have their Question and Answer NCLEX book but never really used it.
Here is a link on amazon of the Prentice Hall books:

Very excited to start nursing school in the fall. I've been gradually getting supplies and books that may help me and trying to get the best deals on textbooks (there aren't great deals, sadly). Anyways, I was wondering if any of you know if books on ECG/EKGs would be helpful and/or essential as a nurse?
Thanks,
Jess
