Hello! This might be a little early, but I wanted to create a group for those applying to Texas Tech ABSN 2024. With applications due in the coming months, I was hoping to have this space for anyone to submit tips or questions that may come up. Thanks!

You won't get a grant but you can still get FASFA loans. They also have some scholarships available each semester and accept private student loans.

Thank you! I'm taking my last pre req this Summer at a CC and was told I didn't qualify for grants or Loans so this makes me feel better!!

I'm pretty nervous because while my GPA looks pretty good, I don't have any experience in health care whatsoever. I also am not first gen, no prior affiliation with texas tech, no study abroad, etc. the most I have is working as a volunteer for a psychology research lab up until a year ago. Is there anyone else on this boat who really has no extra curriculars and worked in something completely different than health care (I did banking)?

Realistically, do I have a chance getting in? Do you know of anybody who got in with my similar situation ? Ideally I'm looking at San Antonio/Austin. 

Hi there! I am pending an answer for the 2025 cohort in San Antonio. I relate to your questions about not having the most points in terms of previous Tech alumni and some healthcare experience, nor brag-worthy GPA (LOL), etc. I think I saw your later posts that you were accepted? Just wanted to follow-up.

I wanted to ask you if you ended up encountering any issues with your exemption? I have been accepted and am trying to navigate this as well. You are the only other person I have seen that had a similar concern. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi! Sorry I never check this account I just saw that you messaged when I was checking my email. 
 

So I ended up getting in and I didn't go through with the program. They said it was really rare for hospitals to allow an exemption & I wasn't wanting to risk that. I ended up getting a job that I really wanted so just pursued that instead. It stinks that the hospitals are still extremely strict.

Hi, I had no problem with exemptions in the program last year as it is not a requirement it should not be asked for. As for the clinical placements and hospitals the school sets them up for you and sends your medical records and I was never questioned for anything further. You will be fine, I hope that helps.

I am in the program this year and it was a requirement. Not for the program itself, but all of the hospitals required it!

Hi, 

I was waitlisted and never heard back. So, I went and got my MHA but plan to apply this May again . I've heard others who got on with below a 3.0 so it's possible.

I was in the 2024 cohort in San Antonio. 
I had a 3.8 GPA going in. I do know that they upped their numbers for 2025 the 2024 cohort only had 15 people in it to 2025 cohort has something like 35 but they completely restructured the way they do clinicals.
