Texas Tech-Accelerated BSN Spring 2020

Published

I haven't seen a thread for those of us applying May 1st to the January 2020 cohort. I'm wondering how heavily they weigh the TEAS. Also, I have heard as long as you meet all criteria they typically give you an interview. Has anyone else heard this? I really like how they take a holistic approach to grant admissions. I'm wanting to apply to UTA but I feel like the main way you get extra points is by attending school there which I did not do! We'll see!

In our email for Austin it says “business casual”, not sure what’s required for other sites?

Dallas said business casual as well

Hey guys! I was told by a previous student that we had to buy the Sherpath books on our own because they come with assignments in them. Curious which one most people decided on for both NURS3215 and NURS3380? 1445597486_sherpathbookoptions.thumb.PNG.dac9b4a5516cb12f995a57daaa55603d.PNG

Hey y’all, so my situation is a little weird but here we go:

last year I applied to the 2nd degree program at TTUHSC for January of 2019 and actually was accepted and finished the first month of the program! However, I became extremely ill and actually got diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and due to all of that happening I had to drop out of the program (I’m all better though and am managing everything so no worries!). Anywho, the program director actually offered me a deferred spot for January of 2020 due to all that happened with me this year. So I actually will be in the cohort and have already been accepted to this program for January 2020 at the Lubbock location!

With that being said, I just wanted to let you all know that if you have any questions on the admissions process or the way everything is going to work as far as the first few weeks of classes go I’d be more than happy to help! I’ve been through it and know it can be/seem a little hectic and crazy so just wanted to offer any help that I can ?

Do you happen to know if I can still be part of the accelerated program without having to move to Lubbock, TX or is this program only offered in Lubbock?

This program is offered at multiple sites and you can apply for 1 site if you arent able to commute frequently(seriously a ton of commuting but it CAN be done). I'm at the san antonio site. If I recall correctly its offered in San Antonio, Lubbock, Abilene, Odessa, Austin, Dallas, and Amarillo. I have to say I know I'm only 2 months into the program but either I've got to some awful schools or TTUHSC is simply amazing. The professors are absolutely FANTASTIC, they treat us like family. I can not say enough nice things about them. I know there is nothing that can make an accelerated nursing program easy but at least they do their best to help us through and attempt to help us be comfortable. Additionally you can apply to 1 site and put a second choice if you have the ability to move or commute. We currently have 2 students commuting from houston to our san antonio location and they are making it happen!

Basically the biggest thing is about time management and scheduling and flexibility. The first 3 weeks you HAVE to be in your site location for classes/sim Monday-Friday after that there is a schedule of when and where you have to be and you schedule clinicals around that, and then the rest of the time is yours to schedule as you wish. I thought I wouldnt be able to work at ALL but I've actually (aside from bootcamp) been able to work 1- 3 days a week! Which has been an immense help because I didnt think I would be able to have an income!

Yea I believe they are not sending invites anymore. I checked and she said I wasn't reviewed due to GPA. Good luck to everyone.

Do you mind me asking what your GPA was?

I think you may be asking someone else. However, I'm a current student and GPA was a BIG concern for me. All the knowledge I have in my head NEVER goes down on paper or exams well because I over think and make a mistake or choose the wrong answers because I over thought it. My GPA apply was 2.9 cumulative and 2.7 for science. I will say I have SIGNIFICANT work experience and on reflection I believe that was a big part of how I got in as well as I tested well on TEAS with advanced scores in most areas. Hope that helps!

My GPA at the end of first semester looks like it will be 3.2 or higher. It's really am amazing school with amazing professors to help you learn.

Hello all! I am applying to the January 2021 Cohort for San Antonio. Does anyone have any suggestions on preparing for the interview or essay questions? Or have any other tips or suggestions in general for admission? ?

Has anyone taken a CNA course in the DFW area that can recommend one? I'm having trouble

I wish I had the forethought to write the experience down for the future class to help you all out. Best advice I can give is to take a good look at who you are and figure out how you can best express yourself in a way that defines you and your unique qualities. It's super general I know, but the best thing you can ever do for yourself is be introspective, it will help with the whole process. This site seems like a good start for practice questions: https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/interviewing/nursing-school-interview-questions. The questions they ask are going to be pretty general. What are your strengths and weaknesses? Tell us a time when things didn't go right and what did you do about it? Start getting your things together now like all your transcripts and immunizations. You'll want to start sending that stuff as soon as the application window opens because there will be some snafus along the way with the registration office losing things or wanting more clarification etc. Be patient, they get a ton of applicants and its easy for them to get stuff mixed up or take awhile for it to populate on your account page. Also be proactive and call people if you don't start seeing stuff on the account after the specific timelines.
